KrappieKilla
I am having an issue with my FL-8. It will run perfect for 5-10 mins then dim out. Shut it off and back on and it runs for like 3 more mins then dims out, and you keep having to do this with run time being less every time. It has a fresh battery. I recently took it apart and cleaned brushes. Haven't tried a different transducer yet. I don't know what else to do, is she finally dead? It can't be, she has been so good to me Has anyone had this problem and fixed it?
DTro
I would try a third battery...
Crappyfisherman
Take it down to Vexilar. They will check it while you wait. They are right off 169 and Old Shakopee Road.If its shot you can get a great deal on a reconditioned unit cheap. I picked up a FL-22 with a PRO-Ducer for under $300.00 yesterday. 6667 West Old Shakopee Road MLPS,MN 55438 952-884-5291
KrappieKilla
Thanks, I'll probably head down to Vexilar. DTro, its actually tried 4 battery's total, 3 new out of package and after charge and same problem. I thought the same thing you did, this had to be the battery! hamms-scooter
Thats a slammin deal on the fl-22, did you get the good deal by going there and not online? The prices online aren't even close to 300...
Crappyfisherman
That was a recoditoned head ,power cord and a Pro-Ducer. No battery, charger, meter or case. I already had that stuff so I just needed the head unit and ice ducer. If your looking for a whole unit they sell reconditioned packages. You can also buy new from them but if you are doing that you might be better off at the shows. I did get a warranty with it and they tested it right in front of me so I know it was as good if not better than new. And yes I went there. pikemaster1
i would replace the wires that go to the battery
bbfenatic1582813981
Sounds like the brushes inside are going bad, they need to be overhauled every once in a while...bring it in they can fix it.
masoct3
The wires could easily be corroded underneath. It might be wise to disasemble and see what you find. Otherwise, replace the wires is my choice after PikeMaster1 mentioned it
Fairchild_82
I was just wondering how many years you guys have gotten outta your vexilar before they go out?
KrappieKilla
Mine is going on 15 years. I will try switching the wires that go to the battery, good idea, they are getting kinda sketchy. I tried a different transducer yesterday and that wasn't it, still had the same problem. If it's not the wires, off to vexilar I go! Thanks everyone!
MrSchrute
My vex works fine but with the deal Dan got on the FL-22 I might head down there to see what kind of deal I can find.
JoePalermo
if you head to vex ask for cory he will take care of you !!
MrSchrute
Was looking online and found a reconditioned fs1000 camera for $279 on Wednesday and by Friday it was gone and the same camera was $409. Called vex and I talked to Cory and told him about the price differences and he honored the $279 price. Shot down there yesterday after work and got hooked up. Everything works great. Was able to spot some crappie on a new lake last night. Great customer service will keep me coming back.
leech~~
Sounds like the brushes inside are going bad, they need to be overhauled every once in a while...bring it in they can fix it. Plus 1, even if you cleaned them they still maybe shot and losing contact as it warms up right after you turn it on. See what Vex wants for new ones. Jon Chapman
Was it acting like this before you took it apart ?
KrappieKilla
Yes it was acting like that before I took it apart. Also had it out yesterday on open water, yes open water on 12/4 smh, and it seemed to be working better for the 3 hours I was out, but just wouldn't show my jig (tried many sizes), marked fish and bottom. Messed with gain but could never get it to mark. I have used it before many times on open water so I am accustomed to how to use it. The puzzle just never ends. Time to go to Vexilar! KrappieKilla
Bought a new power cord (vex head to battery) and that was it. She is running as good as new now. Old cord was slightly corroded upon further inspection , thanks again everyone
