LOL  Absolutely right! Delmar, didn't you ever winter camp? In a tent, in the snow? You should try it! Or, put a barrel stove in that palace of yers! Nothing like a cracklin' fire to come back home to...that's what makes it fun!!   Now HERE's an uninsulated cabin! And fulla bats, with no windows! Screens and sheets!  Chimney comes down to nothing, stove was ripped out years ago. Home for me and my buddy for 3 days every year while fishing the tourney up in McGregor. 29* at nite.....

A Fall retreat! The acrid smell of a wood fire....crisp leaves crunching underfoot....frost tipped-grass sparkling in the early morning sun....nuttin' like a nice, cool Fall day in da woods!  A cup o' steaming cawfee in yer paw....:blush:

Yep.  Before we were married, camped at fall lake MEA weekend.  In a tent.  Snow falling in the cornflakes.   I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.  Or something like that. 

Mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy.

those cabins look like palaces compared to some of the houses i've seen on the reservations up nort.:grin:

 

when my parents first bought the cabin back in 65..........it was propane lites and frig and a 2 burner fuel oil stove. we carried our own drinking water and 5 galloned pails of lake water for dishes etc........then we carried the slop water out in 5 gal pails!!!!!!! still do some of it.

A 'fridge!!! Luxury livin'! Means electricity.....why propane lights then? We had to "cooler it" those three days. Didn't matter, one entire day was out on the water for 8 hours for the contest. (Once you came in or docked, you were finished) That nite was drinks and dinner at Bann's Supper Club...:P

nope.........actually had a fridge that operated on propane.......and these where the 100 lb  type cylinders!!!!! cause we didnt have elctricity back then. not sure when pops put it in but my brother and i argued against it till he told us to never mind........its my place i'll do what i want!!!!!!

My F-I-L in the picture is probably about your age Del. We stay in this place for grouse and deer season and he thinks it is the best place on earth. No electricity, no running water, need a chainsaw and 4 wheel drive to get to it, and heated by a home made wood stove.

Whatever.   Yeah I would have stayed, but like I said, if mama ain't happy....

I offered to drive her back to Rochester and then come back in a few weeks....   Didn't go over to well.

I'm sure he'd have no problem, especially since it is still summer. Who has their heat on this time of year?

really???? my wife has no issue with me heading north without her!!!!!! even by myself!!!!! heck she may even encourage me to go!!!!!:cry::grin:

      If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.

      Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...

      Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?

      We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
