LindellProStaf
I have Norton Internet program but wondered if I should also have a Malware Program? I use windows 10 if that matters.
leechlake
Lindell- I'm venturing off of my skill level but back in the day when I was a PC guy I used AVG Free. I did that because my techie guy told me about it and it worked without any ads coming up all the time to buy a different version. LindellProStaf
I just checked and I have Norton Internet Security. Will I still benefit by having one of these malware programs?
delcecchi
I use "malware bytes" free edition. Try it for a while and see if it finds anything. I think windows defender that comes with windows isn't too bad either. I used that on one computer. Sometimes your internet provider has software they will provide you. Malware bytes sure has warned about stuff that avg etc didn't. Not sure how big an issue the stuff was. LindellProStaf
LindellProStaf
So Del is this going to benefit me over my Norton Internet Security? Is it good to have both?
RebelSS
I have Malware bytes, AVG, AND Avira...!!! They work together fine...one that was a piece of dump and causes known issues with Chrome is McAffee.
LindellProStaf
So they are good to have even if I have that Norton I mentioned?
RebelSS
I think so, yes. Added security is always a good idea, IMO. You can always easily uninstall them if you don't want them.
LindellProStaf
Hey I used to have malware years ago but haven't since then. I told my wife. I will ask the guys on HSO. Thanks for all of the info. I did some reading and the ones you all mentioned seem like good companies. I downloaded Malware-bytes. Downloaded great and did a scan. Found nothing which is a good thing. Now I can watch the last quarter of this game with comfort knowing I am protected....

jmd1
I always used norton and the defender that was part of Internet explorer. Then i switched to macs and use one that is made for that OS. I never had any issues with either one except that i found that norton made my machine run slower as it is always on in the background. Good luck. Go CARDS! BobT
Can you disable the resident package? I think Windows10 comes with the upgraded Windows Defender and it is not recommended to use third party anti-malware. Having more than one package can cause issues I guess. At any rate, I've been using Windows Security Essentials for the past couple years without any issues. The newest version of Defender is the upgraded SE package and protects agains Virus, Worm, Trojan, Spyware, Adware and other malicious programs. I think we often go overboard with concerns about protection. The best defense is the user. Use discretion when visiting sites, taking care about what one clicks on, not opening any files that weren't requested, staying away from potentially dangerous sites, etc. are all things only the end user can control. BLACKJACK
I'd highly recommend malware bytes. I had a virus on my PC about a month ago and it identified and removed the virus, while a couple of others, including MS Security Essentials could identify the virus but couldn't get rid of them.
