Good Morning!

Recommended Posts

Good morning. Dark dreary, and raining here. T-storms predicted for today. Started the day out yday learning one of my buddies I've known for forty years passed away this weekend...in the morning news. Bad way to find out.  Really set the tone for the day. Lost so many in the last three years, I've lost track. Six, I think. Not including my last living uncle and aunt the other year. Way too many, it really hits a guy hard. Spent most of the day on a ladder (which I'm not supposed to do) hosing out and scooping the goop and wet leaves out of the gutters. Helps me forget the morning news. Blew them out in November, after all the leaves were down and raked...how do they fill up again? Was slow going, as I can work for about 15 mns at a time before the leg stuff starts and I have to sit down for a while. Back downspout that runs along ground behind house was full of crud; had to pull the three sections apart and get the goo out of those. What a mess. Went in and rested up and showered, came out and made some two-cheese cheeseburgers on the grill while sipping a tall one of iced tea. 'Tater salad, green tops, some sliced 'maters, and I was about ready for bed. Really took advantage of the 60* weather. Raining good now, neighbors gutters are overflowing all over his deck...he's gonna have a wet basement again. My sump pump started running the other day; I was surprised it was so early. Musta been that 10" of fast melt snow and the rains that got the water table high. Sure glad I put that in. Really pouring now....water shooting out my downspouts. Not the neghbors, though....  Have a good one, guys.

Sorry to hear that Rebs.  Ya it sucks that people have to die.  Does obviously happen more often as we get older and everyone else does too.  BUT you have had a real bad streak.  Feel for ya and will think of you today.

Good job on the rainspouts. My house has the cheap plastic ones that the previous owners put on when they did the addition thing.  I have tried everything to keep them from sliding back and forth and just doesn't work.  That is why they are so cheap....  My neighbor had a seamless company over and they did just one side of his house a few years ago and so far his new ones are doing great.  I may have to have them come and do at least part of mine and see how I like it.

You take it easy Rebs.  Kudo's to you and your old friend.

Thanks,LPS. Ya, been a bad run the last couple of years. I hold my friends very close, which makes it all the worse. They're  basically my family. It's never easy regardless.  But the seeing his pic in the obits really sucked.

My gutters are the seamless ones, but the older 2x3" standard size, would like to have  the new 3x4" size. They don't plug like these do. Boy, are they spendy, though. Too much for my budget. Gonna be a take it easy day all around for me.....enjoy yours, LPS. :)

Contgrats to the Union fellas.  I don't know who, what, why, how but as I was hitting the sack on the news they mentioned some Supreme Court 4-4 tie that benefited "Organized Labor" I assume that's supposed to be some association with "Big Union".  Your attorney union brothers did you good!!!

Awesome rainy day.  I don't know why but some rain days seem welcomed beyond "we could use the rain."  Maybe it's because I cleaned up all the bushes and blew some stuff around, and cleaned up the yard.  Now the rain will add the finishing touch to things.

it has to do with union fasculities, in this case public employees and there requirement to pay a fee for negotiation expenses. the free loaders lost. they say it was because off the death of Scalia.

I have 2 right to work states, soon to be 3. we have that right to charge that fee but we don't. why???? if they don't pay that fee they have no right to look at our financials.

oh and good morning. not much on the agenda today.

What do you have to hide in those financials that you don't want people looking at?

BTW the issue before the court had to do with public employee unions collecting fees from  non members to support "bargaining".    Not a big fan of public employee unions myself...

Ah, staying away from the political stuff meself this a.m.. Rainy day thus far here. .74" when I left the ranch. The rain brought the office pest in after a few days away. He was kind enough to bring his grandson along who sounds like he has a nasty cold so am guessing we'll all be sicker than hell in another several days. Swell.

I hear ya Reb. People have been dropping like flies around here. Been some somber days this spring. Mostly older folks but I've known some of them 30+ years so they weren't that old when I first got to know them. The funeral yesterday was a big one as expected. Was so glad I took my Hawk in to the care center last summer so the guy who recently passed away could see it. When my buddy wheeled him out and saw all  the old cars, his eyes just lit up.

Another set of twin buck lambs last night (of course). Think the count is 38 - 16 now. Just thankful the ewe pulled it off after fiddling around much of the day digging holes and pawing. Sometimes that doesn't end well. Patience, grasshopper. ;) Got my sod put back where it belonged after chores last night and while I was doing that she had the first one. Then after making a scrumptious prepackaged oriental teriyaki chicken stir fry for supper, discovered the 2nd one at bottle lamb feeding time.

There are 3 more ewes that are close to come in and looks like one straggler that will probably lamb in April or May. So far everything is doing well. At least the ewe lambs we do have are decent and there are a couple that can likely stand a lot of competition if they keep coming. Not too pleased with the creep feed we've been getting. They changed the formula and are using rolled corn instead of cracked corn. That's fine on older lambs but for little tykes you're trying to get started fast, they leave the whole kernels of corn and eat the rest. Someone apparently had their head up their corporate feed company butt, more concerned about making a buck for the company than putting a product out the door that performs. When enough people have issues and they lose that business to someone else, then some guy sitting at a desk will wonder why the stuff is still on his spreadsheet, sitting in their warehouse. Typical.

So you are hiding them from the public, and even making members jump through hoops to see what their money is spent on.  You and the Teamsters.  Which are you, Dave Beck or Jimmy Hoffa?

Good Morning.  Sorry about the losses that you have had Reb.  My brother and his buddy was up the North Shore yesterday to try for some steelhead and loopers.  No luck.  Rivers are low and waters are more clear than what you would like.  With rain starting today up there and into tomorrow it should get better.  Hoping to be on the road Friday to see if I can bring some home to smoke.  I will have to say however that it seems like whenever I get a chance to go after steelhead or loopers, it seems the cold weather follows me.  Good chance for me to bring up my brothers share of the venison sausage that I made.  He will fish with me Friday.  Here is a picture of him from last week when he stopped on his way back from Florida.  He stopped at the Menomonie River in eastern Wisconsin and caught a couple of steelhead.

If I needed another hobby that trout fishing would fit the bill nice.  Turkey hunting in SE Minnesota my cousin and I used to do some trout fishing and he'd catch trout and I'd catch chubs.  I don't have experience in knowing where a trout would hang out in a creek or river so I don't catch any.  I'm a hack at trout fishing.

image.jpegone April weekend years ago we had nothing cooking and just started driving and ran into this.  I think even the kids were embarrassed that we sunk to this level of fishing for trout.  Fun activity and the fish were horrible.  Mushy beyond belief.

Ya, most likely farm raised trout that are fed pellets.  Steelhead are very tasty and hard fighters, only problem is you can't keep any at this point.  Loopers are lazier fish [kamloops rainbows], and don't make the jumps like steelheads to go further upstream are fine but not as tasty as the steelhead.  I brine and smoke loopers and then they are very good.  Yes you have to know rivers and where the fish rest ect but the angling part is not that hard but you do need waders, a long pole [mind out of the gutter] and 8 pound test line.  Yarn, spawn bags or yarn with waxies as baits under a bobber with a split shot.  This you drift areas of the stream.  Years ago when there were only steelhead, we had to clear the banks when someone had a steelhead on.  They would take runs back down stream and you had no choice but to keep up with them until they got tired.  I've been fishing for them since the 60's.  good luck.

He needs to come down here to bluff country and fish some of the best trout streams around. No live bait allowed, though...new regs.
