If my memory is correct I've been to California twice.  Once was to San Diego area and we stayed on Coronado if that's the island place, that was 15 years ago.  Deb and I went to San Fran a few years ago for a long weekend and that was a fun place with a ton to do.  Reb and Del are kind of our California experts and besides making tri tip on an oak fire I have no California Cuisine tips in my arsenal.

Good Morning.  Red wing blackbirds are chirping out near the pond today.  That reminds me it's going to be Swallow season pretty soon and we have a stucco house and pond in our backyard.  Perfect recipe for them making nests on our house.  My wife is obsessed with it and tries to hang various whirly gigs here and there to deter them.  We have a walkout basement towards the pond so it's hard to reach their nests even with a long telescoping pole.  The red ryder gets some action but the whole operation is like a battle against the Viet Cong.  I may break out the power washer this year which will get dirty but should be effective.

St Patrick's Day.  I couldn't even tell you what it really is but every news show runs with the theme like it's more epic than Christmas.  Seems like an amateur holiday to me, no offense to my Irish friends.  Although I may be able to find a green Edina shirt of some sort to wear to bother people, that sounds fun.  Go get em today guys, patience on the road and in lines is our policy.

Good morning all!!! A new blanket of snow here this morning to cover up everything again. Marvin is doing just fine after yesterday's neutering. If you didn't know that he'd been to the vet and been neutered, you would have never guessed by the way he acted when we got home.

I spent about 5 years in the early 90s in southern california, off and on. The weather was fantastic, food was great, and I still got to play hockey on most weekends!!! I don't think I did much cooking back then, so no California cuisine tricks here.

Fish tacos. That's all they eat out there. They have no idea what a real BBQ is. And don't ask for a California burger. Ya might have that avocado winged at ya.

O ya, good morning. Sorry Marv had to lose the twins, lbbg. Poor pooches never get a say in what happens. I think it hurt me more than my pooch when he had it done.

All I've ever seen of LA is the airport and that was enough. HOWEVER, the San Francisco and San Diego areas are fantastic. Jealous of Del, La Jolla is an amazing place. Could never live there but really enjoy visiting. Never knew you could get within 2 feet of a wild seal.  Very surreal.

I almost always order a California Burger, love them.  Never had one with an avocado.  Sounds good on the burger not coming through the air at me.  I was there in the 70,s  ;):P:grin:  Good times at that time.  Haven't been back since.  Lot's of neat little bars on the beach back then.  Just a few big places.  I am sure none of those Mom and Pop places still exist.  We went to a place called the P00p Deck.  Small place that had 1 pool table and 1 foosball table.  The fun part was noone there knew how to play foosball.  I was the king.  My buddys were real good up here, I was just good.  People would keep playing just to laugh and have fun.  It was a lot of fun back in those days.

We got 12+ inches of wet heavy snow.  What a mess.  The river did open in the main channel.  It feels like we lost ground on the spring thing with all of the snow though.  I had to wear my knee high Muck boots to get down to the river.  Sammy had snow rubbing his belly and he was plowing with his chest some of the times.  I realized when he was standing still with a funny look on his face he was peeing.

Well I have the corned beef in the crockpot.  Will steam the cabbage and carrots and onions when I get home.  That means Ruebens tomorrow.  Great Holiday!!!  Well sort of.  I am a proud union guy too. International Union of Operating Engineers. Local 49.  I think we should get this holiday off darn it.  ;)  What do you think Smurfy.

Ok see you all later boys.

Maidin mhaith! (Gaelic for "good morning") Yes I am Irish although I'm not positive to what degree. Looking back in the records on my Dad's side, appears we were most likely transplanted English in Northern Ireland. Probably got booted out when we couldn't pay our rent as a result of the Potato Famine. I don't celebrate much but if I happened to be in Waseca around lunchtime I might sneak into Katie O'leary's for a green beer and some corned beef and cabbage. Best stay upwind of me tomorrow if that happens. :)

Another huge ewe lamb born last night. 29 - 13(?) Hope we get done with this soon. We're starting to get on each others nerves. Mrs. Cheviot was never a sheep person growing up; they had dairy cows so we have differences of opinion on how to handle certain situations. One of the things 50+ years of raising sheep has taught me is patience. It ain't like calving a cow where you get all worked up, call out the national guard, everything comes to a screeching halt and you force things to happen. At choretime, she was convinced the ewe last night was in trouble. I watched things unfold hourly after chores and it looked to me like the ewe was just taking her sweet time. When I went out to check on her after the Gopher's basketball game, the blessed event had occurred and everything was fine. Sometimes the best policy is to leave the ewe alone. Another best policy is to keep your mouth shut when you're right and don't say "I told you so". ;):D

Can't remember going to California although I lost track of time and where I was several times in college so ya never know.

I will second that vote.  That looks awesome.  AND LL this is am important day for us Irish.  Can't remember why, just like corned beef.  As a matter of fact I am going to research St. Pats day right now.

Ok I checked.  This is the day St Patrick died, he was the patron Saint of Ireland.  On this day lent restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted.  Therefore binging on food and alcohol became the celebration on this day.  So there we have it.

I remember several years ago taking our black and white Border Collie Gus to the vet to get neutered. When I went inside to pick him up they told me to try to keep him still so he didn't have any complications. Ya right. Keep a Border Collie still. Good one. Anyway, I lifted him into the front seat of the pickup, shut the door and turned to go back in to pay. Gus never rode in the front, always in back. As soon as I turned around, Gus jumped over the front seat and into the back. So much for keeping him still.

Everyone is Irish today, even this German.  Besides a Reuben sandwich has kraut in it.  I'll be making something simple today.  Take a crescent roll and unwrap them.  Put some thousand island dressing on it, swill cheese, corned beef, and kraut and roll them up and bake them at 350 until brown.  The kraut I will be using will be not the plain kraut but my German kraut with the bacon.  That will add some flavor for sure.  Never been to California and not planning on it.  Call me crazy but I'm only interested in traveling north.  The further the better, the wilder the better.  Alaska is no. 1 on the list.  Not the cities of Alaska but the wilderness.  I don't like cities.   Got to order more sausage seasonings.  Lot of new stuff to try.  good luck.
