Dotch
Any nudist colonies there you could post some photos of del? Morning or what's left of it. Has just been one of those days when people are pestering me like a swarm of gnats. All have lots of little whiny PITA problems making it tough to make much headway. The shearer comes about 1-ish so have to get a bunch of little projects done before he gets there. Luckily we shut the ewes in last night about 10 so they should be nice and dry. He appreciates the fact we do that. Not everyone treats their shearer with the same reverence. Bob has told me lots of times guys meet him at the end of the driveway on their way out and don't even stay around to help. Then their animals are knee deep in poo, wet and they're not locked in. Not the way I was brought up I guess. We always started in the morning, had a big meal at noon and finished afterwards. This shouldn't be a big deal to get done before chores today but it still takes a while. If Bob and his catcher stick around we'll have supper for them. Have always said if he quits shearing, we're done raising sheep. I wouldn't even think about doing that myself anymore. Looks like lots of night owls here in the overnight. Not much help in that department I'm afraid. Once it gets about 11 p.m. the eyelids flutter and I'm a goner. Guarantee if you come and help shear, it'll tucker you out. That and you'll receive all kinds of sage advice, along with wisdom and knowledge gained for future reference. Tougher now trying to plan these diet meals. Meat and vegies or meat and salads. Not a bad mix but I do like the variety options I had just a week ago. I can loose weight pretty fast, especially if I cut out the brewskies. One week and no beer. What was hard though is to stand in front of the grill and not have a cold one nearby. I quit the hard stuff about 20 years ago except I do take a cocktail during deer camp. My son-in law made these awesome bloody mary's at deer camp last season. I had two of them and would have had another but the mix ran out between all of us enjoying them. Nice and spicy and full of flavor. But I do like a beer now and then. Well off to the post office and then to the liquor store. No, not to get some beer, but to get my mother-in law some Manechevitz grape wine. She loves that stuff for a night cap still at 90. good luck. Now ya got me thirsty, RH!!! Oh, I miss having a drink. So, I'll just post a funny instead. reinhard1
Bobby Bass
Finally fell asleep at 7.30 this morning and made it till a little after 11 for what I would consider to be just a good nap. I have watched the first 15 shows of Breaking Bad and just can’t get into it. I have a very good memory so watching shows that I have already seen bores me quickly, other wise Sopranos would be right up there. Just getting ready to make breakfast or maybe I should say lunch? Already warmer here then what has been forecasted for the day and there is sunshine for a change. reinhard1 and Dotch

And House of Cards I also enjoyed, as I mentioned before. Fits right in with the upcoming election. New season just out or out very soon. Amazon Prime has a lot of stuff too, if you are or would be prime member. Boar

Popular Post SwivelDigger
Good morning guys, made it safely back from chaperoning the big ski trip. Kind of fun to watch them kids. They all had to pass a series of tests on the bunny hill before they could head off to the big " mountain". Some of the little timid ones would breeze right through and then some of the athletes would struggle to get passed. All in all a good time though. Not much on the agenda today. Maybe I'll go catch a few crappies. Have a good day! leechlake, Dotch, reinhard1 and 2 others
leechlake
When I was just laying down last night I had the tv on and accidentally clicked up one channel from what I was watching and the weather channel popped up and believe or not there was the 7 day forecast for San Delego. Sure enough 70 yesterday but looked like rain today and maybe tomorrow. Del will have to spend the day inside making seafood sausage or something appropriate. One of my kids is going to the dentist today. Seemed when I was a kid going to the dentist was a major test on how well I brushed my teeth and one cavity or more was the failure level accompanied by a teamed up scolding by the dentist and my mom. Maybe it's toothbrush technology or the fact that 95% of kids get braces and a lot of tooth care but things have changed. My guy used zero nova cane for fixing cavities. Luckily I thought that was normal. It was the 70's version of waterboarding to a kid. I would have admitted all sorts of things under Dr Staberg's drilling torture. Beginning of melting snow today and a Winter's worth of dog turds emerging!!! LindellProStaf
Cold here. -19 earlier this morning. I didn't realize it was going to get that cold. Got the wood burner loaded up in the garage and headed for work. Going to be 24 today and then lower 30's for a few days. That will feel great. Fishing has been slow so I am ready for the spring thaw. I want to get the boats out. Bobby we take a package of chicken breasts and put them on a baking pan with whatever spices on we want and throw them in the oven for an hour. Might even put some carrots and celery in with them. They turn out great. Then we use the leftovers for sandwichs or add to other things like alfredo sauce or even a spaghetti type sauce or a chicken salad. Although the canned stuff may not be up your alley. Hey good luck to you Bobby. Hope all goes well and we are here for ya. Keep us up to speed on your recovery. What did you guys say? Del is going to a nudist colony? Think they will know he is the guy from Minnesota. The guy that is white as snow.... Actually I don't know that for a fact, Del may go to tanning booths to get ready for this. Go get em Del. bobberineyes and Dotch

Dotch
Del at a nudist colony? He always seemed a little "sheepish" about that sort of stuff. Speaking of that, just licking my wounds from yesterday's main event. Of course there were more sheep to shear than I thought. Mrs, Cheviot has a nasty habit of starting somebody else's 4-H or FFA kid on a project, subtly offering to pasture their show sheep for them and they subtly somehow never leave again. FFA as we used to say means Father Farms Alone! It is a good feeling to have that done again for another year though. Shearing is a group effort for four people at the ranch. We have a catcher, a shearer, someone to hang onto them while the other person jacks them with some injectable wormer and a pour on insecticide, basically the same chemical as is used for head lice. Usually the catcher hauls the fleece out to the bagger while everyone else does their thing to reload and get ready for the next contestant. When the shearer gets clicking he can blow through one in 3 - 5 minutes. I was the guy hanging onto the critters once the shearer let them off the deck. We sheared 48 head and I feel fortunate. The shearer and the catcher are the guys who really take the beating. They're younger so age does have its perks. Not that I couldn't do the catching but I would pay the price. And it wouldn't go as quickly I can guarantee that. I have no problem with paying a good catcher very well. One side benefit from hanging onto all those animals: My hands are very soft after being in contact with all that lanolin. Not a minute too soon either. My fingers were starting to crack from the dry weather. My only regret was I didn't photo the bagger or wool sack. Sorta like one of reinhard's sausage stuffers on steroids. Some photos from yesterday. A snapshot of part of the process involved in bringing food and fiber to the consumer from the ground level. Sheep shearer to the stars Bob Smith gets his shearing handpiece ready to go. Our first contestant: Let's rock!!!! Bob deftly avoids getting kicked in the 'nads! Not his first rodeo. Ta da! All done. SwivelDigger
My cousin raised a lot of sheep and he custom sheared for quite a while. I " got" to help a few times. Quite a process. A lot harder than it looks, and a lot more work than you would think. Looks like you have your own "nudist" colony going on now! Dotch
Well they're down to their flannel underwear that's for sure! Was comical to watch them this a.m. About 10 above so they'd run out to grab a few mouthfuls of hay out of the mangers then run back in the barn to warm up again. In a few days they'll grow a little fuzz back plus it's supposed to warm up later in the week. bobberineyes
