Bass Boats

Why aren't bass boats more popular here in MN?  I have a alumacraft lunker and am thinking of upgrading.  I've been eyeing up some aluminum bass boats (ranger, triton & G3)  and really like the storage.  There has to be nothing out on the deck, tackle box, anchors, everything can be stowed.

What am I missing???

Bass boat are plenty popular in MN. Walleyes are a popular species here and the aluminum v hull, especially tiller models, are just better suited for targeting walleyes.

I fish bass the vast majority of the time during open water but a few years ago when I was comparing boats, I found I could get a much newer, better condition, aluminum boat for the coast of an older year fiberglass boat. I opted for a 16.5' tiller. I love the open floor plan, it has plenty of storage, and while my 50hp four stroke may not win me races to spots its much more fuel efficient. I also like the flexibility to fish walleyes come spring or fall.

Before my current boat I had a bass tracker (aluminum bass boat). Was never really happy with it the entire time I owned it.

I agree; a bass boat is not the best family boat. Great fishing rigs though!! I went from a

Ranger Reata  to a Ranger RT178. ( alm. bass boat) Wife loved the Reata for her friends, but not my fishing! Love the RT. I fish the Miss. most of the time and some small waters !! I have a 60 hp. so not a fast rig,( does 30 on GPS) has lots of storage, handles well, and stable.

Bass boats marvelous single purpose machines.  What they are designed to do they do well. They are not everyone's cup of tea. Do not allow yourself to be romanced into buying a bass boat if you plan to fish other species and frolic with the family on sunny days.

Not to mention they are outrageously expensive for what they are!!
