Heres a couple pictures of my jake. Not much of a story tho. I got up at 3am and got ready for the 6mile drive and the 3/4c mile walk out there. Got setup around the 5am area with my young cousin jeffrey(he's 6 ). Didnt take very long after the sun started to turn the sky orange before I heard some gobbling. Did a little bit of yelping on my jackpot and a few with my new mouth call before they started to talk back. Time went on and before you new it it was 8:30 and nothing yet. Looked at my cousin and he was already sawing logs... HHmmm, that looked pretty good so I to took a few winks before I was woke up with some turkey clucks. I had seven Jakes in the decoys nad the rest is history guys. I had alot of home work etc. I had to get done after 3 days of sitting on the blind I thought it was time. Herse a couple pictures and I will get it registered on here later with more info. Dillon full-35453-55259-04161511401.jpg

Good job Dillon! Thanks for the story.

I've been rudely awakened by noisy birds in my decoys more times than I care to admit.

Same here, the worst way to wake up is when a storm rolls in during your nap and the blind knocks you out of your chair as it is blowing away.

Sweet!

I guess my mounted strutting jake decoy must look too real. Got set up this morning and 10 minutes before the turkeys normal show up time in that spot, here rolls up a truck and 2 guys jump out sneaking and crawling up on my decoy. When they got about 60 yards away we got out of blind to confront them to see if they had permission. They did but the poor guy was crawling up the ditch full of mud(another 10 yards and he would of had a clear shot). They apologized and went on there way. Not sure how they didn't notice out truck parked on the road. Oh well, I was thinking i should just hit record on the camera and let it play out! lol. Yes we were out of the line of fire.

Yikes! Last year I had a buddy down in Nebraska have a guy with his eight year old son belly crawling up to my friend's decoy set behind one of those full fan tails the dad was holding. They were trespassing and luckily my friend is a veteran turkey hunter and just didn't blast away when he saw the fan come through the fenceline. No wonder some people get shot besides having your little boy with you. Scary stupid.

My metro archery hunt started yesterday. Sat just two hours last night and about the same this morning. Turkeys everywhere!

Saw 12 last night, and at least that many this morning. Two last night 10 yds behind the blind, drumming and gobbling like crazy but would not come out into the field. This morning had two big toms follow a hen across the field into my decoys, but the toms stayed out about 40 yds and would come no closer. These two must have gobbled 100 times. Still 6 birds in sight when I had to pull the plug and come in to work. frown

Not sure if I'll get out again till we head to Wisconsin on Tuesday.

Called in this nice double bearded gobbler for my buddy Thursday morning. There were three gobblers together who never made a peep on the roost. We didn't even know for sure if one was there as the only time we scouted this spot was a month ago when we thought maybe we heard a couple of them gobbling on the roost. I was doing some cold calling about a half hour after fly down when I got a response from a gobbler. He kind of stayed in the same place for awhile gobbling to every series of yelps I made. Finally he was sounding closer and soon let out a very close gobble. I told my buddy to get his gun out the blind window and cover the jake and hen decoys. Seconds later there he was strutting at about thirty yards. My buddy was holding at about 12:00 and the bird was coming in at 10:00. He couldn't see him but I could. Apparently he didn't like the jake decoy and started circling the blind to our left at about ten yards drumming the whole way. We had the window closed on that side and couldn't get a shot off.Pretty soon he was behind our blind and at about the two o'clock position. He was going to head out and told my friend to get his gun out the back and take him. He had not seen him this whole time. He pulled his gun out of the front of the blind stuck it out the back and made a nice thirty yard snap shot.A little bit later is when we heard and saw the other two gobblers with a couple of hens. I'm guessing the one we shot was probably getting beat up all spring and when he come over the hill and saw that jake decoy decided he didn't want anything to do with it. I bet if we had the single hen out he would have been right in on her. I have seen a few birds with double beards but not one that had equal length and thickness. Thought that was pretty cool.
