Widows 7 Or 8 ?

Recommended Posts

Getting ready to buy a new pc desktop or laptop and was wondering if I should have it with 7 or go with 8. I'm using Vista now. I'm hearing 8 is not very user friendly. But 7 installed costs $100 more. Any opinions? Don't do much gaming. Mostly surfing and e-mail etc.

I use both. 7 is much better IMO. I'm not sure if 8 is truly not user friendly or if it just seems that way because its a bit different from the way windows has looked and worked since 95. It is annoying when you have to figure out to do things on 8 that are second nature to experienced windows users. It also has some new features but its mostly cosmetic. I never use them and try to keep it on the older style desktop as possible. I think those features work better on touchscreens.

I'm pretty sure 7 is regarded as more "stable". I personally haven't really had problems with either version.

I would pay $100 for 7

You can make some tweaks to 8 to make it more laptop/desktop friendly. Not seen windows 10, but that promise to be more laptop/desktop friendly. Seems to me 8 was designed to compete more in the tablet market. I have not seen anyone in the business world deploy it enterprise wide yet.

I wouldn't spend the extra $100 on Windows 7, as Upnorth said, you can tweak Windows 8 if you really need the Windows 7 interface but once you understand how Windows 8 works, you get use to it very quickly and the OS itself has been very solid for me.

If you're just surfing and using it for e-mail, get a Chromebook. Virus proof and extremely user friendly. Very fast too, it's only about 10 seconds or so from the time you press the power button to the time you're on the internet.

I have been using windows 8 now on my laptop for about a year. I had windows XP before this, I don't think that it is not user friendly. I do have a touch screen but very rarely do I use it. I use windows 7 alot at work and I dont find windows 8 to be much different other than the looks of it and additional bells and whistles. I would recommend Windows 8.

I just picked up a new HP desktop last week..XP is no longer supported and I wanted the newest thing. I'm not he biggest geek around and I had no idea 8.1 is a flop. I've been told however that an upgrade to windows 10 will be free.

Now I just need to figure out if I can play the older Unreal Tournament 2004 again laugh

If the older version is $100 less than the newer I e that should tell you all you need to know. I have 7 on my laptop and my wife has 8 on her desktop. I would keep mine forever before switching to 8

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
