walleyeking19
We've had the same permanent for about 5 years now, and for some reason this year we've had the deadbolt freeze up 3 times already. The key will fit in, but we are unable to turn it to open the door. Everytime that's happened we've gone in and gotten a little butane torch to heat it up and open it, but it's a pain to do it. We installed a vapor barrier on the lock too, but it still keeps happening.Any tricks to keeping the lock from freezing up? When we open it the inside portion of the deadbolt is covered in frost. Thanks!
dj2quick35
i have the same issue going on right now. Was stuck in the house a couple of times cause the latch on the RV door wouldnt slide. We also had to use the butane torch to warm it up. Im going to try some silver grade anti-seize to see if that helps the next time I am out on the lake. leechlake
I'd take it apart and get some machine oil on the parts after you dry it off if it's wet. Pick up some lock deicer in case it continues.
Mid-Lake Rock
Two years ago, my lock would freeze all the time. Last season, didn't freeze once. This year, same problem that you are experiencing. Key goes it and can't turn it. I end up plugging a hair dryer into my generator. Last week, my buddy breathed some warm air onto the lock and it opened. I did the same thing two days later and it worked! I am going to try the machine oil.

Down Deep
Go get some graphite lube. Comes in a small tube and you just squirt a puff into the lock to lubricate and keep moisture from forming. I had the same problem on my fish house and the graphite solved it. Its sold at auto parts and hardware stores.
David Anderson
Get a can of deicer and spray a little in also wd40 works to. Nothing like WD (Water Displacement) 40 for good lock care
centralmnguy
Hand sanitizer works also just dip your key in it and rub some on deadbolt and work it back and forth a few times. Has vinegar and alcohol in it and gel won't freeze.
leech~~
Keep an eye on which way you park the house to the sun. Even on really cold days if it faces the sun most of the day the sun will keep it warmer and dry it out a bit.
Fowlmouth
Wd40 will take care of that problem
Hawg
Me too this year. I've tried cleaning it, graphite, WD40, Slick 50, and drying it out by a heater overnight. Still freezes, must be a weird year.
