Hawg
Anybody seen these yet? I'm not sure if a link will get zapped but they are on Aqua Vu HSOforum.
B-man715
I believe they are illegal in Minnesota and Wisconsin. But I might know "a guy" who tried fish attracting lights under the ice and it didn't seem to do anything
leechlake
since I haven't thought about using a light in the water for over 30 years I can't remember if this thing would be legal in MN, my recollection is no, but either way my personal though is that this is cheating/unethical. If others think otherwise I respect their opinion, my line is drawn with something like this.In case you don't look it up its a blue/greenish underwater style light that would attract baitfish or other underwater invertebrates. DTro
I have a coupe sitting here at home. I know they are not legal in MN, but you can you use them in WI, so I’ll be trying it out over on the St Croix one of these days. Oh…..I have one I’m going to be giving away too. Not sure I would put in the cheating category, you still have to get them to bite, its not like a fish trap or a gill net.
Hawg
I'm pretty sure they are illegal in Mn, not 100%, but pretty sure. It's kind of interesting though. Incredible what those tiny LED's can do. Dtro, why do you have a couple, are you affiliated with AV? I have to have one of everything, you must be worse to have a couple. Post your finding on here.
JP Z
The lights are VERY cool, not for fishing really. But if you have one off your dock for an evening it's amazing what will be swimming around it.
Hawg
If there's mermaids swimming around there-I'm buying two!
DTro
Honestly, I’m more interested in what the light brings in and not the things that eat the things it brings in. In other words, there are certain types of baits that are very had to get, this BioLume might make it much easier for someone who needs to find a morsel to feed a whiskerfish. Having said that I’ve done some research on these and from everything I’ve read, you want to put the light away from you are fishing and then hit the edges where the fish will be ambushing the bait. Kind of like a manmade “mudline”.
PurpleFloyd
If you don't want to spend that much money but still want to try the concept, you can order a submersible lights on e-b-a-y.Look up squid lights and they come shipped from China for just over $3 a piece including shipping in a week to 10 days.I just got 3 of them in the mail a few days ago.I haven't tried them out yet but I got a blue,a green and a red one. The reason I bought them is to see if they would help to locate the different positions of my jigs in relation to where I have my camera. Mid-Lake Rock
From page 26 of the Fishing Regs: Using an artificial light to lure or attract fish is unlawful. Exception: While angling, a person may affix to the end of a fishing line a lighted artificial bait with hooks attached. Any battery that is used in lighted fishing lures must not contain mercury. How soon until someone turns that Bio-Lume into a lure with hooks and drops it down a hole as a second line during ice season?
PurpleFloyd
Wow. The lights I bought could actually do that. Interesting.
JP Z
So basically it's just like the whole "put a few beads and a spinner blade above my treble hook on a tipup" thing and you can then make it a "lure" by just adding a hook to it? I think there is some grey area there.
Hawg
Thanks Floyd, looking at the options really makes for some interesting applications, such as in line about 3 feet above your hook. If it was legal Looking at the ship time though ice fishing would be done.

redneckdan
I have noticed, with smelt fishing inparticular, the light hurts rather than helps. I have been hammering the fish, then some guy sets up right next to me and drops a light down 'to attract the fish'. My catch rate drops dramaticly until I move a good 100 feet away then start hammering again. One time I had one of the goof balls follow me around the lake. He saw me catching fish and set up right next to me. I moved and he didn't catch fish. So he moved next to me again. Went on five or six times before I said the heck with it and went home.
