Yeah, whatever did happen to the smallie magnet tourney? I think everyone was waiting for me to put it together... Maybe I should get on that. I'm moving this weekend & all of next week, so no fishing for me frown.gif but after that I'll take a look at the calendar and try and put together an outing for all smallie hunters!

About that rod, sorry about leaving that in the boat... If you need me to swing by I can pick it up I can or it'll just give us one more reason to hit the water again. Once I'm done moving, life will be all better smile.gif. The only cure for moving is smallie fishing! (Thanks to Ebass for getting me hooked last year. It's amazing what the feeling of a 19.5'' will do to you!)

Has anyone tried the new Strike King 5" Zero? I've had great luck with this bait in green pumpkin. It's great on my pocket book as my clients can catch 15 to 20 fish on one bait before it gets torn up on one end then I've been switching ends and we just keep fishing. I've had great luck on both smallies and large-mouth. This past week we hit the walleyes on the same lake that Rick and I fished earlier this year. After both ends are worn out I toss the bait into a bag and use it for wacky rigging. Just remember you can not mix standard plastics and 3x baits or you will be left with a mess...

Chevy is the best. Leave the rest on the side of the road to rust away. Not even worth getting them towed. wink.gif

I've got a lot of imitation senko's and a sample pack of senko's just waiting to be used. Do you rig them just like any other plastic worm? Or is the prefered method, wacky rigging?

Granny:
I fish a lot of very clear water for smallmouth and I believe they do see the line. Even if they don't I have found it beneficial to use a 5ft. mono or florcarb leader tied directly to the superline. Use a double blood knot and a dab of fishing glue to keep it tight. It's a page from the flyfishermans handbook on fishing spooky line shy brooktrout. I've been doing this for years and it works great with Senkos. I am confident you will catch more fish doing this.
Try It and good fishing

Juan Grande -

Basically fold the senko in half and put the hook through the middle. It gives the bass a different profile for the bait.

Or you can buy the rubber rings to go around the worm and you can hook your hook right to that. Wacky & T-rigged both get your senko or any other work for that matter chewed up really bad. The ring will prevent SOME of the damage.

Hope this helps.

My son brought home some bass the other day and when he filet them he noticed on one the belly was full. He cut it open to find a couple of baby sunnys and a 5 inch Senko!! Never seen an artificial bait in a stomach before. Bass was about 12".

I was just wondering, what is everyone's go to color? Or does it depend on the fish/weather? I've had decent luck with the watermelon black/gold flake. Does anyone have any suggestions one what colors to keep stocked in the ol' tacklebox? Thanks fellas

Wood, I am curious as to if the fish can digest the worm or regurgitate it back up? I also wonder if it would eventually kill the fish if it stays in. Worm had no signs of breaking down. Looked like it was recently eaten...like less than 24 hours. Anyway, it was fun to see. Doubt that I would see that again.

Okay, I understand how to wacky rig a senko, but to use a ring do you just slide the ring up to the midpoint of the worm and put the hook between the ring and the worm?

So the hook doesn't actually go through the worm?

Yea that is correct, slide the ring on to the midpoint of the bait and then hook just the ring (don't hook any of the worm). This allows the bait to slide up the line easier when you get a fish.

Wacky is just that, wacky. You can hook it just about anywhere you want. I've had good luck with the ring off center near one end as well.

Magic Stiks are now available online. I've had a lot of requests for these and for good reason. They are the hottest bass bait on the market right now. I know a lot of people have had trouble finding them due to limited availability in MN.

I've never fished a Senko.....yet.
I just picked some up for the next trip out. I understand the rigging and all that. My question is the depth of water you are fishing. I assume this is a fairly shallow presentation? Chunk it up on the edge of the pads and let it do it's thing, falling gracefully to the bottom. But what if it is 10 or 15 feet deep at the edge of the weeds. Is this too deep? Do you work it all the way back to the boat along the bottom? I obviously need to do a search and read some articles on tactics for fishing senkos. But I'm also interested in what you guys have to say from your experiences.

Thanks

i would say mainly it is used as a follow up or to target around weeds etc. but i fished with a guy who said he was doing very well with summertime suspending bass. he was fishing over 50 feet of water and letting it fall 10 to 20 feet. the fish were targeting schools of baitfish and he was throwing to those areas.

you really have to be on your toes because a lot of the strikes you will not feel. the line just starts moving so you need to watch the line carefully.

I do fish them on deep weed edges in the 10-15' depths a lot. You just need more patience smile.gif They can be even more effective, just because not very many people have the patience to fish this way. One trick is to stick a finish nail in one or both ends to increase the sink rate a bit (this works both for deeper water and for working shallow water faster).

I have also fished them in deeper water on weededges 10-15 feet... They almost "senk" them selves back into the weeds where the big guys / girls lay...

Also have drop shotted them with a lighter drop shot for those suspended bass... 4-5 foot drop, and get those pig suspended bass!!!!
