Are K&N air filters worth the money??

Recommended Posts

Im looking to improve the 13 mpg im getting in my 01 F-150 if possible. I have heard that these air filters can improve mileage by 1-2 mpg, is that correct? They are $57 for my truck, thats a lot to pay for a filter, was just wondering if they are worth it? Thanks

I buy the K&N Filters because I can clean and re-use them. I don't know that I have ever seen a mpg increase from just the filter. It is the last filter you will ever need to buy for the car.

Ford spent how many billions of dollars to make an aluminum pickup to get a few mpg? If they could do it for 20 bucks (volume wholesale price) don't you think they would? And I am a little skeptical about how good a job of filtering those things do also.

Tried them couple different times. No mileage improvement (did not expect it) and if anything I did not even get any improved filtration. I often found dust and dirt on TOP of the filter. Nothing special about them other than the fact you can use them over.....and I didn't even do that.

Save your money.

Ken and Norm filters allow more air flow by filtering less. The dirtier they are the more they filter, because the dirt then acts as part of the filter. No because they filter less more dirt is allowed into the engine, which may cause damage and will contaminate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. So, more air requires more fuel, less logs more horse power and torque (like so much you wont be able to tell) and a dirty MAF will mess with a lot more including fuel delivery.

You want better mpgs? Clean the MAF sensor with some cleaner for the sensor, replace the spark plugs run a few cans of sea foam through the engine and if you really are gun ho, clean the throttle body. Disconnect the battery and let it sit for an hour. This will reset the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) and the vehicle will relearn it self and hopefully will get better mpgs.

As long as you dont use the fun pedal that much.
