Boar
So after reading the entire thread of Flip vrs Hub, Ive decided to go with Hub, why? cause I have an old otter lodge that over ten yrs old and seen its better days, Ive had iut solong that the pole system is now entirely made out of electrical conduit for replacement poles. canvas is getting really worn out with a burn right in the zipper and auger ounter slits ect. now pretty much the only thing I dont like about hubs is no floor, but figured i could combat that easy enough, id like to put the hub over the tub for convience of seating in it or anything else to put in it to keep of the snow, Looked at the jason mitchell 5000 an the eskimo 6 side fat fish. any reviews from u guys? DLD24
I have the fatfish 949i and love it....had an Eskimo quickfish before that and loved that one too...Eskimo ice anchors are super easy to drill in by hand...I like that eskimo has the removable windows, if one does happen to break easy replacing....Last year was a great year for testing gear and the fatfish passed with flying colors... EJ
I used the JM 5000 last year. No complaints except upgraded anchors. Very warm, a lot of room, good zippers, large storage bag and easy pop up or down. I would get it again if mine was stolen, burned up or flew away in a gale. Trump34
^^^ +1 ^^^The bag is large enough but get a couple cinch straps for the shelter. It makes things a lot easier when putting it back in.
hamms-scooter
I'm looking at the fatfish 949i vs clam big foot xl4000 . Both look nice and roomy for my family of 4. Found Eskimo 949i for 269 free shipping clam 299.... Undecided
pushbutton
If you want to flag fish, the eskimo has better window placement, other than that, it is pretty much a coin flip. The clam is a little bigger and brighter, but you will have to buy new anchors. You will enjoy either house.
hamms-scooter
I noticed clam has 600d and Eskimo has 300d both full insulation.

KenM1987
I just got an Eskimo 949i fatfish this year for spearing and I love it. the room is unreal and I'm looking forward to getting out and panfishing with it later this year. pushbutton
I noticed clam has 600d and Eskimo has 300d both full insulation. Never really knew that, but looked it up, and guess that is why the clam is 20 lbs heavier. Cant imagine more is not better, but guess how much better would be the question. Suspect each companies trademarked thermal layer would have more more of an impact than how thick the actual fabric is. Have fished out of both and did not notice much of a difference as far condensation...have not had a thermometer and tracked propane usage though. When Leech finally gets his flasher shootout up and running maybe we can add a side by side hub comparison to the festivities
Neiko
I have the 949I and love it. I use it for spearing and the black inside is perfect. Do the Clams have it fully insulated? Maybe that was just their flip over I am thinking about.
uffdapete
Started out with an Eskimo Quikfish 3 (which does not fish 3), then Clam 6 x 8, now Eskimo 949 non-insulated. The 949 will fish 2 with plenty of room and could fish 3 with the right hole locations and 4 in a pinch but it would be TIGHT. My advice: Eskimo. Insulated. A size larger than what you think you need if it's in the budget and the extra weight is ok. The non insulated works but insulated would be easier to heat and holes furthest from the heat might not freeze as easily when the wind chill is a factor. greatwhitehunter
949i! Fish two very comfortably and 3 works pretty well too. Being insulated sure is nice as well. Only complaint I've got is the bag that it comes in. Maybe that's changed since last year?
Mike Stark
Eskimo makes awesome hub shelters. I got the insulated one the first year it came out and had issues with the poles bowing do the extra weight of the fabric. So I sent it back and went with the non-insulated one but it sounds like they have worked all that out now tho.
djt311
love my clam bigfoot 4000xl thermal have 2 of them, I would recommend thermal, I purchased a non-thermal and the condensation was ridiculous, returned it the next day for full thermal, definitely worth it condensation is very minimal if any and can keep much warmer more easily
mrklean
I use an Eskimo hub for spearing and wouldn't trade it for another one tried a Clam right away but it let way to much light in. For normal ice fishing you couldn't go wrong with either fished with a buddy who had a insulated clam bigfoot I believe it was and it was super nice and warm, can't go wrong with either. Boar
Its a toughy, Im leaning towards the eskimo insulated, but the JM5000 is sweet to, dont think I can go wrong with either. I enrally only fish with one other person, and its in my IC, but want the quick travel options of let take a little jaunt somewhere for the afternoon, and have elow room and functionailty of space. Iwant a new crossbow too, just bought my second muzzleloader, so i am at real, odds right now, what to do what to do.pretty sure Ill go with the hub house tho. oofdah it hard to decide.. getting motorcycle in the spring, now thats gona be hard. deerminator
I have two of the Clam 4000 thermal and love them. They work well but I agree on the windows. A little too high for flag fishing without having to get up every 5 minutes. But that's not the end of the world, just raise your hind end up a foot or two look around and plop back down. lol
