tonneau cover and bedliner

Recommended Posts

So I bought a new pickup. I have never had either a cover or a bedliner. What benefits am I going to see from the cover? What liners should I look into? Anything I can't do myself will be a challenge with my location. Are any of the d-i-y liners any good? Thanks

I have a cover on my 99 sierra and love it. Its a soft roll up kind. I roll it up to put the fish house or snowmobile back there but other than that it stays down and keeps the bed of the truck snow free and dry for the most part. As for bedliner I just have some wood in there. haha I guess that's something you could do yourself!

I bought an Access cover for my 2006 Silverado and it's still holding up great, I would recommend. I recently purchased a 2014 GMC and came across a guy in the parking lot of Rad co as I was looking at options, he showed me his Roll-X from Bak Industries, this has the look of the soft roll up but is extruded aluminum sections underneath that allows you to roll up without hogging the whole back window. I only have had it on for 6 months but very happy with it. I purchased it online as Rad co didn't sell them.

Access cover I've had them since '98 on my last 5 new trucks, its worth the few dollars more over the cheap ones. I wouldn't waste my time with the DIY bedliner kits especially on a new truck, if it doesn't stick you end up with a real mess. Any of the brand name spray in liners are good, just find a good installer. Generally I just use a thick bed mat, my new truck came with a GM bedrug its fine if you don't haul anything greasy but I can see that being an issue for me.

Just purchased a new Silverado and had them install the Access brand. I believe the 2 top brands as far as qulaity are the Access and Truxedo.

I also had them do a Line X spray liner in the box. I have seen some of the DIY jobs and the owners were not real happy with the results. The DIY is less as far as money but more than likely in quality also.

The Line X also has a lifetime warranty along with the Access cover also.

On my last pick up, I installed a cover I purchased, a cheaper one and it lasted about that long also and then started to have issues with it.

I bit the bullet and got what I thought was the best and had them installed.

I have the access, works great. I've had the Bed Rug in a truck with topper, I've had the spray in ones, I had the brutal plastic ones, and since I have a cover on mine the last two pick ups I just bought a thick rubber mat from FF and it fills up nearly the whole back and keeps things from sliding around. I could care less if the bed get's scratched on the sides or wherever since I have a cover on it, except when my kennels are in it I never have the cover rolled up. Think they cost about $60.

The thing is about 1/2 inch thick or more and super heavy, it doesn't move and I'd bet more comfy on the dogs feet than anything except the Bed Rug but you need a topper for the bed rug, I'm anti topper now, hard to fit the atv in with a topper.

Had a topper on my last truck, had to find another person to help lift the thing off every time I had to haul something tall. New truck, put a roll up cover on. Just need to roll it up for the tall stuff. Also, truck doesn't look like a "grandpa truck" as my wife always said my last one looked.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
