Can you plow on the lake with a straight blade?

I am wanting to get a plow this winter for plowing on the lake. I have a 1/2 GMC so a Boss V is not the best option. Meyer has a 1/2ton V that actually weights less than the Boss 7.5 standard duty. The Meyer 1/2ton V cost $1500 more and the dealer is 2 hours away. There is a Boss dealer right here in Ely. I think I will be able to get an initial road opened by someone with a V blade and then maintain it will the straight blade.

Are there guys out there that get by with the straight blade? I know its not ideal for the lake but its looking like the best option for me.

Thanks.

It is difficult, even after the road has been opened. It is also quite annoying watching someone back up and take off about a million times to try to open up a road or off the side of the road. If you can keep it open and i mean constantly like a resort would, you might have a decent chance at it, but that will require some serious effort. I watch a buddy of mine try to go 300 feet about 2-3 winters ago with like 3 feet of snow and he got about 30 and called it a day. very difficult but like pleasant said, you use what you got.

how about a straight blade plow on a 1/2 ton in general.used for a long driveway. any issues using a 1/2 ton? like a 2014 ram.. just curious.. im looking at moving and place im looking at has 10 acres.. if i would have been buying a house before i bought my truck i surly would have bought a 3/4 ton, but is no longer an option.

works just fine until or unless you have high snow banks on side of the road. Even then it just can be an inconvenience rather than a deal breaker. I have a 3/4 ton and don't tow much anymore and don't plow with it anymore. Maybe we should trade?

Lake or driveway ..... if you have room to widen the road and fan out the sides, suppose you could make a straight plow work, but as mentioned once you start getting higher banks on narrow roads, even a smaller snowfall with some wind will fill that road right in...even higher than before. A winter like last...a v was a must for goat trails.

Last year at LOW I watched a guy in a ranger with tracks and a straight blade plow for over a mile in 16" of snow without stopping once.

I realize tracks are a little different but the straight blade angled didn't seem to be a problem.
