Well, where is everybody headed to for the opener?? Yes, the "real" opener. smile.gif
Bass time!!!!

Just wondering what areas people like to hit for the opening weekend. I am not looking for specific lakes, just generalizations if you want.

I am headed to Ottertail County(land of over 1,000 lakes). I will never get to fish all of the waters I would like to try, but I will die trying.... wink.gif
I have a very lucky connection to fish a privately owned lake up there, and nothing I have ever fished compares to it for quantity and quality. Last year was the first time I fished it, and I am headed there Saturday morning. Chances are pretty good, that I will be spending most of the weekend out there. But, who knows what will happen? It all depends on the fish. There is no shortage of bassin waters to try, if for some reason they are not biting on my primary lake.

I just cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where are you going??

Sounds like you got a nice lake to go to. I am heading up up to the same area. I am going to be on walker and ottertail for the weekend. Need a fishing partner? Would be nice to learn more about bass fishing from someone who knows how to fish them. That area is unbelievable with the amount of lakes within 50 miles. I just never get time to get to any other lakes. Maybe when the kids are older i will have more time. Later Jamie

I'll probably be pre-fishing for a TeamBass event on Platte-Sullivan and also heading out and doing a little pre-fishing on Green Lake in the Chisago chain.

My guess is inside weedlines will be the key! But I have been wrong before and will be wrong again!

Heading to the Hackensack Area and plan on puddle jumping form one small lake to another. Will be at the cabin from the 25th until the 7th.

Can not wait.

Potato Lake, Hubbard Cty... on Wally opener the surface temps were in the low 50's... i would guess that bass are in pre-spawn... will try to target weed lines near flats.. should be a lot of fun..

Temps aren't going to go up very fast at this pace.

Opener was 50-52 degrees. Apparently it was pretty cool this past weekend again.

Can't wait to test the waters!!!!!
Is it Thursday yet? (I have Friday off, so I can sit and stare at the water to prime myself for Saturday)

I envy all of you guys. I have to hold off another week. My brother has his graduation this weekend so i won't be bass fishing. But the weekend after opener i will be hitting the waters around alexandria. It can't get here fast enough. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Ottertail County!!!!!

Are you related to the Klimeks north of Brandon? I assume so.
We have a Klimek with 40 acres near us
south of Vining. The Dad Klimek used to own 40 acres right next to us, and sold it about 10 or so years ago.

It sure is funny how a company`s sense of humor can show at such a fragile time. I was just informed I am forced to work on sat. morning. This will be the first bass opening sunrise I have ever missed. I hope sombody saves a parking spot for me at the ramp. Good luck everyone. Flip

It should be an interesting bass opener for sure. I've been monitoring the bass here (Otter Tail Co) and last week bass finally started showing up in the shallows at pre-spawn, and yesterday I checked popular areas and the bass abandoned their spawning areas mainly because of the weather, I assume. The weather has been way cold and wet for a long, long time. Water temps are struggling to reach 53 in the shallows right now.

Last week there were sunfish, crappies and bass choking the shallow areas! I did not see one fish yesterday. I suspect the fish will return once the weather warms up again.

I am not going to target bass in their precious state. I just hope a lot of others don't disturb them on their spawning beds.

I didn't know Ottertail Co was such a hot destination. I grew up in Brandon and I fished that area a lot as a kid and when I come back home. I don't see many boats out fishing for bass in that neck of the woods. I'm not complaining. There is so much water to fish in the Douglas/Ottertail area. I will be back hitting those spots this weekend. Happy Bassin' smile.gif

I can't stand it any more. I have been waiting to bass fish in MN since last October 20th. Sure, I fished pool 4 and Wisconsin, but nothing beats MN bass fishing. My boat is loaded up and ready.

Let's get ready to rumble...

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
