Kirk Herbstreit’s one of the more well-respected analysts under ESPN’s college football umbrella.

But he’s sure to ruffle some SEC — and ACC — feathers after his latest comments during Tuesday’s radio appearance on the Colin Cowherd Show:

“The best team in the country to me is Alabama,” Herbstreit said.

On Sunday morning, Herbstreit tweeted that his ‘new top four’ consisted of Florida State, Mississippi State, Auburn and Oregon. He put the Crimson Tide in the No. 5 slot ahead of TCU.

So what changed over the last two days?

Herbstreit gave no explanation other than to further detail his stance behind Alabama and Florida State as the nation’s two best teams.

“If you’re just asking me on potential and on athletic ability who the two best teams in the country are just looking at them, I would say I think Alabama and Florida State are the two best teams.”

Top-ranked Mississippi State’s the SEC’s lone unbeaten and one-loss Auburn jumped ahead of Alabama in Sunday’s AP Poll. The second College Football Playoff rankings release later today.

Herbie’s top four will surely fluctuate after Mississippi State and Alabama’s showdown in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 15.

I imagine how I feel today because of the Auburn loss really doesn't touch how y'all felt after the iron bowl last year...

That's an ancient memory, I have the promise of a brand new season to help me through it. You'll have to wait several months for that. cry

I can say without a doubt that I am a huge fan of this playoff. 2 of the 3 teams I cheered for won today (thanks Gophers for blowing the 3rd). I hate these Forest Gump jackwagons, but I really cant make fun of them for losing since they are running out of room in their trophy case. It was a great game to watch, and I am glad OSU won.

My money would be on Oregon for the title. That pace has to be near impossible to keep up with.

Enjoy your crow for breakfast Big Dave.
