Went to a garden center on CR42 in Savage to buy a half dozen rolls of sod and they were out till tomorrow. I haven't bought any for a few years and asked what the price is for sod.......6.49 a roll! Is that crazy high or am I out of touch with sod prices?

Don't worry you are not out of touch with sod pricing. There was a story on the news the other night that explained the sod shortage that the sod farms are going through right now. This springs cool wet conditions destroyed a good portion of their stock. They went on to say that many sod farms aren't even selling to individuals that are calling and inquiring. They are only selling to their big hitter customers (landscapers, nurseries, ect...). They said this storage and increased pricing could be around for next year too as they alternate fields they harvest and next years stock was also damaged. Not a good deal if you need to sod your whole yard. I feel for those people stuck in this situation.

Where we have been getting it lately it is even slightly higher. Some people insist on having sod no matter what you tell them.

We have one customer who's entire lawn is bentgrass. A bunch of it died off last year so he found a golf course up north that was doing re-construction and had them truck in several pallets of bentgrass sod. Couldn't believe what he paid for it.

very high. last yr was 1.89 for 4 fters.

I'm paying $1.89 / yard in the north metro directly from the supplier.

Think about it. The garden center is paying $2 / roll +/-, they have to get it to the garden center, they have to hope someone comes and gets it, if no one doesn't, there is waste. Then factor in the expenses of having the garden center, profit margins, etc, and it's more.

Anyone sodding an entire property would be silly to pay $6/roll.
