regulation question

Good question:

I was thinking the same thing could I throw our a rod with corn or crawler and have my bow to shoot if any move past at close range.

BUT I think that would be "LIKE" using 2 lines. which can not be done in the soft water season.

Better yet could I have a sucker under a float for Northern and have my bow ready to shoot carp?

if bow & arrow are defined as a line (which i assume they would be) then you have your answer, otherwise you would not need a license for such a fishing method, right?

Guys harpooning northern need a license. Is a harpoon a line? Can you angle with two lines while harpooning?

I'm not absolutely certain, but I don't think this would be legal.

If you're fishing thru a spearing hole in the ice I don't believe you are also allowed to have a spear in the house at the same time. I think you're only allowed to implement one "angling method" at a time.

But I could certainly be wrong.....

Call the DNR. Post the answer you get here.

The regs for Dark House Spearing have changed. For Ice fishing you may have 2 lines so the spear is one line and you may have one other line inside the house or outside the house such as a tip up as long as your are close enough to it etc. I now keep a panfish rod set up while spearing just in case. Open water angling is one line so I would think you could not bowfish and angle at same time. I would email the DNR and get the real answer. They have answered my emailed question about regs in the past.

mwal, thanks for correcting me on that. I know they didn't use to allow us to have the spear in the house with us (fishing) as they (the DNR) said it could possibly be used to spear a large fish that was difficult to bring up with hook and line, or one could simply spear a fish that didn't want to bite on a baited line.

Interesting that they changed that.

At any rate, I think the DNR is where this question should really be posed. It's a good question.

Ironically, I stopped by our local dam in town this morning and watched a couple young fellas shooting carp with bows and arrows. They were really good at it. Although, when I asked them what they planned to do with the fish they didn't really have a solid answer. Hope they're not just dumping them in someone's woods, ditches or fields. Glad to see someone thinning the carp in our river, but not if they're just creating a huge stinky mess for someone else. wink

Many years ago you could fish and spear and then they said you couldn't but now you can. I remember when I had to have a separate pail for WI ice fishing at the cabin as WI allowed Tip ups and MN did not.

CC. I was thinking, one way around this situation would simply be to have another person along with you. That way one of you could have a line in the water while the other is watching for fish to shoot.

You could simply take turns....one fishing, the other shooting. I can't see where there would be a problem with this, but there again, I could be wrong... crazy
