WI state record smallie?

So awesome. I think I live in the wrong state for smallmouth. North Wisc putting out 30lb bags, southern Wisc putting out 9lb giants. Crazy.

Happy for the release as well. Why keep it, replicas cost the same and look 100% better.

I think I read they didn’t have a livewell in the boat so they used the net bag as an impromptu livewell between pics and video and weighing. It’s a huge fish, but it is what it is… a fish weighed on an old spring scale. It never fails though any fish that approaches a record and released is always left with some doubt. They say they measured 24 x 20, but I didn’t see any pics on a bump board or tape. They tested the sack of spuds at 5lbs, but why not 10?

No matter it’s a beast of a fish and one that Ben will probably never top and made a lifetime memory

Yeah, with a fish like that and the crummy scale you would think they would want all the photo evidence they could get of it on a board or the like.

That thing is a true giant regardless of the specs. I would have liked to see a little more evidence on weight/length since the claims were so large but the video shows one massive smallie. Eric is one of the best in the Midwest but he is guilty of over-sizing his fish - like a lot of people.

Its kind of sad to see the whole thing turn into a marketing opp, but when that’s the livelihood of both guys involved, then its to be expected I guess. Frabill is a solid company and I know Eric and Ben are great guys, but pretty soon we will be finding out the brand and color underwear the guy is wearing when he catches a fish. sick

Old Spring Scale? Is 5 lbs that different than 10 lbs? That is a Chatilion Scale. I have owned them and found them to be the most accurate (Short of minute increments) on the market. If he had a Normark digital scale would yo have said its just a cheap digital scale? I don't know the guy from Atom but I know a big smallie when I see one. From my office chair several hundred miles away I know I could not refute his claim. If he is off by an ounce or two, who cares?

After questioning his honesty and character you follow up with "no matter it's a beast of a fish......." After bashing his character you attempt to redeem yourself?

In some instances I have seen fish posted on line that do not seem to fit the reported weight. In this case I think you are off base and owe the guy an apology.

Yea, its a darn shame the company that pays him to market their products had to be so prominently displayed. Its almost like he's trying to ensure they continue to support him financially. He probably has kids or something at home to feed. Darn shame.

Overreact much? smile Did I really question anyone’s character? Geez, make more assumptions eh. All I said was that it was an old spring scale that looked to be in the ballpark with a 5lb sack attached. Even the cheapest digital scales seem to be more accurate than a spring and most certainly easier to see on video. LOL I’m just saying if you are going to go through the trouble of setting up in a grocery store and demonstrate a scales accuracy, and since the fished pulled down to 9, why not 10lbs? Doesn’t that make more sense? The record is 9.1, so if that element is even going to enter the conversation at all then yes of course a few ounces matter. Even his sponsors at Berkely said they gave him a hard time about the scale. smile How dare they question his character. LOL

Apology eh? Ok…..I”m sorry.

All I know is early on after joining the world wide fish bragging webz, I posted a crappy non reference pic ...... said "pushing 6" and man o man.......let the games begin grin Have not done it since and would expect more of it if I did wink

As for the original topic. Absolute pig! Even better that it is still swimming.........

What's wrong with a guy repping his company a little? There's a big difference between what this guy did, a tasteful plug, and the shameless constant mentioning of all his sponsors every time he catches a 3lb bass. If I made a living off catching fish and actually used one of my company's products to get said fish, you better believe I'd give a shout out! Shoot, if I caught that fish on video & only got it cuz my super-sensitive Fishmaster2000 depth finder picked up a little gravel bed, for example, I'd still mention it if I wasn't getting paid

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
