kt
Im with fishnAddict, i'd like to see some pictures of these hogs. Any bass over 24" has got to be close to the record unless the fish was really skinny. I've caught plenty of 19-19.5 inchers that were pushing 4.5 to 5 lbs. Are the fish in some of the metro lakes not as thick as they are in other areas of the state?

bass-o-matic
20.75" LM from metro lakes twice20.5" Smallie from the BWCAA. Caught the smallie 50 yards from our campsite on a topwater popper. No scale (before digitals were available) and the batteries died in the camera. Just the memeory for my dad and I. We estimated it at 5-5.
Guest
Nice fish guys! As far as length to weight, from what I've seen they are pretty proportional in the metro... 20-21" puts you in the 5-6 lb. range post spawn. The charts normally say 20" as 5 lbs., so it seems they are of normal proportion... Some of the fish posted here sound like they would have been close to the state record. Sounds like that record is about ready to fall .

EBass
drto,That's not a big bass. It's a nice bass, but that looks like a 3-4lb class fish. If you can put your fist in it's mouth then it's a big bass. I don't think the guy holding the fish could put his fist in it's mouth. Unless that dude is like 6'5". Dang it, I wanna post of pic of a piggy I caught.
DTro
Never claimed it was a BIG fish never weighed it nor measured it, however its as large as the other two pics posted. Not my biggest my any means just an example. By the way my fist.......oh who cares.

Guest
EBASS..You're harsh!!! Did you guys ever notice that the inside the mouths of really big largemouth's (over 22") there is a dark red color. It is not from an injury. It is on the inside of the lips and on the crushers (throat) I have caught several this size bass here and on the East Coast and all of them have had it...If not, it sure is a wierd coincidence. fishlips
I've always wondered what would be the right thing to do if a potential state record was caught in a catch and release only lake such as Steiger or North/South Center?
EBass
I don't mean to offend. It's a NICE bass, don't get me wrong. I was just hoping for a 6lb bass photo, that's all. Vern, has a nice pic - that's 5-6 lb range. I do have a pic of my 20.5" smallie. Anyone know how to post? I'm still looking for the pic of that 22" largemouth. It's around somewhere. BIG ISLAND DUDE
My freind and I have caught so many bass between 18" - 23" it would be impossible to keep track of the counts. The largest this year was just over 23.5" caught in the spring on a fathead. My largest was cuaght 2 yrs ago 24" 7-8[?] lbs on a jitterbug,[dont hate the player hate the game]. We never keep anything, EVRYTHING GOES BACK! We dont have many pictures. The lake is 240 acre lake in the GR area, with very lttle fishing pressure. P.S. To the pople who are listing fish from out of state, last I ckecked this is "fishingminnesota.com". Anyone can catch a 10 lber down south. ------------------I never vote for, I alawys vote against
Guest
EBASS: That is a very nice fish. Typical dark Mille Lacs pig. Unfortunately, you have a fishing buddy like I do who has a tendancy to take "marginal" pictures... Too much sun, not enough sun, finger on the lens; I wish I had a nickel for everytime I got the pictures back from developing and was devastated by my friend's inability to take a good picture. Whenever I catch a picture worthy fish I like to get several pictures, hoping at least one is OK. Digital cameras are great for preventing this. Maybe it is better when my face is omitted!!! Beautiful fish none the less!!!
DTro
EBass, non taken. Probably didn't fit well with the post "largest bass". Beautiful smallie by the way. I guess I should've posted a big fish instead. http://home.mn.rr.com/dtro/river.jpg [This message has been edited by dtro (edited 07-22-2003).] [This message has been edited by dtro (edited 07-22-2003).]
AWH
Biggest one for me was a 22.5", 6 lbs 9 oz, caught in '95. The fish hit a Johnson Silver Minnow right next to a Beaver Lodge. It was pretty cool watching the big wake come from the side before she ate it. I caught a 22" on a spinnerbait that went 6-6 two days later on a different lake. My two biggest ever within a couple days!AWH
fishermn
OK, my biggest bass isnt all that big (5lbs 2 oz), but the story is really good... I was zipping across my favorite bass lake one calm clear morning, and I spied a big norway pine that had recently fallen over into the lake. I headed that direction and cut the motor and just drifted up to within about 50 - 60 feet of the tip of the tree. I had a black and orange buzz bait tied on, so I fired that right in at a little opening between some branches. Well, I gave er a little too much zip, and ended up with the bait just catching the tip of a dead branch just above the spot I was aiming at. The buzzbait just kinda flipped over the branch and hung there 12 - 15 inches above the water. Just as I was about to give it a little jerk to flip it up off the branch, this gorgeous bass comes shooting up outta the water and devours the buzz bait. I almost fell outta the boat before I came to my senses and set the hook. Luckily, as the bass hit, the line also flipped off the branch, and I had a clear fight with no branches in the way! It wasnt a huge bass, but for these Duluth area lakes, I would consider it pretty good. It also won the bass division in our fishing contest at work, so all in all it was a pretty good fish. Bobb-o
I had an experience like that one time. Was casting spinnerbaits to some reeds wioth my dad early one morning. He made a cast deep into the weeds, just as the lure was aboot to hit the water a bass around 3-4 lbs jumped out of the water the spinnerbait hit the bass in the head and bouced off. I fell down in the boat i was laughing so hard, but my dad just stood there in shock for a little while before he started laughing.
EBass
It's all part of my plan so no one knows who I am j\k, yeah we never took a photo class or anything like that. Besides it's about the fish and not the face, well that's the excuse I'm giving out. We'll have to take more snap shots rather then one. drto, that's a HUGE cat. Flathead? It's kinda white looking. Glad you're not mad.
