Our family will be fishing at Rainy Lake in July. We would like my son's GF to join us for a long weekend. She can take the Mega Bus from Chgo to MPls on Thur. July 17th. She would arrive Mpls. around 6 am. We are looking for a way to get her from Mpls. to Rainy on that Thur. Anybody going up that way or have any ideas? I know I can post on hsolist but I know my friends here always have great ideas. She is a very intelligent, 23 year old professional who will be traveling light (we can bring her gear). Ideas????????

Jeeez, did you ask her yet about the idea of riding 5 hrs with some weird person off an internet forum? My daughter and wife both warned me about going on fishing and outdoor activates with weird strange guys on a fishing forum! grin

Probably not a good idea to have a young lady hitch a ride with any stranger, especially since it isn't your daughter.

Have you checked into hopping the Greyhound to Hibbing and picking her up there? That cuts your(your sons) drive to about 2 hours each way. And face it your son and her would probably like a couple hours to themselves before the whole family is around.

I think there is also a shuttle van that runs between msp airport and hibbing, or Duluth. I am pretty sure I saw ads for such a thing while up north last summer. Don't seem to be able to come up with them on the internet.

what she look like? How old is she?

It says above she is 23. But, I'm sure a 5 hr drive will be enough activity for an Old Dewjabber to barely have the energy for anything else but maybe having a heart attack! grin

I'm with the others on, just not a good idea in todays world for this sort of thing. Just had our annual anti harassment training in the workplace talk and the person that gave it scared me enough that I won't even be holding a door for anyone anymore. Help her with the cost and get the flight to I-falls or somewhere near.

I think Mama Norts is open to other ideas like the ones mentioned above, not just a ride share. She also has faith in HSO members to be good folks that are willing to help if they can. I don't know P Norts but went back into the posting history to get an idea of who the request is coming from.

Commercial transportation might just be your best route for this P Norts. I'd get her as far as Virginia if we were travelling on that date. Good luck and do some checking up on anyone who might offer.

Thanks Wanderer, for giving me a little credit here. Yes, maybe I do put to much merit in my fellow HSO'ers, but at least some of you I thought I could trust. I appreciate all the ideas. I have looked into the airport shuttles and buses. Being in Chicago I was just not familiar with all these options and I appreciate your inputs.

At this point we are leaning toward Delta form Chgo to IF. With all the buses and transfers it will get expensive by bus. Renting and drop off at a different location is also steep. The farthest north I can get her by bus is Virginia. Which we could pick her up there, but the cost is probably not worth it vs the plane. Plane will be a little more expensive but save a lot of fishing time. Thank you for all those who shared mature responses and yes I am a real person.

Hopefully through all the odd comments and jokes you did see that most were really concerned for her safety. Hope everything works out and you all have a good time up there! smile

Good Luck and I don't think anyone was being negative or rude but just being real...todays day and age especially what we have seen with young girls in this area in the past 2 years I think we are all a little more protective from letting anyone with a stranger let alone a 23yo female that is unfamilliar with the area and looking for a 5 hours car ride. Its the times we live in like it or not...hope your family has a wonderful vacation on Rainy!!

Give your son the car for a day, that's the best option! The gf will appreciate him picking her up in person and score some relationship points.

That is, of course, if you like her. If you're looking for a good way to get her to dump him, make her wait around the Megabus drop off for an hour. Having dropped off/picked up friends there before at odd hours, it feels kinda sketchy there when you're alone.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
