Marcum?

My flasher took a dump this weekend and plan to replace it within the next day or so... I have ran vexilar sand had no problems but to me it seems like "old technology" and I know; if it's not broke, why fix it... But I just see so much more advancement with the Marcum flashers... With that being said, how do you guys that own marcums like your flashers? Looking at the lx6. We hop holes on a,pretty constant basis and I like the size of the unit a bit better with the smaller screen and all. Pros/cons?

Thanks!

Chad

I have had 3. An LX3 that I sold to a friend and I still have an LX3TC and an LX5. Other than a known transducer issue that Marcum quickly replaced I have no issues. A friend who grew up with FL8s got a Humminbird and now has an LX5. He likes something about the LX5 over the others. I don't have any info on the newer models but if they are like the earlier models they should be solid. Others will chime in I'm sure.

I took the plunge and bought a LX6 this winter. So far, so good, everything I expected it to be, can't wait to get it out after some Crappies soon.

I made the switch to a Showdown vertical graph a couple years ago, I liked it a lot, now with the LX6, I don't see myself ever buying another mechanical dial flasher again.

I've got an LX3TC and LX7 and both are great. The LX7 improved my fishing and a few people I fish with bought LX7 after seeing/using mine and they are happy also. The 7 is easy to learn and can be simplified if you have an inexperienced user (wife) with for the day, they can quickly pickup what is shown on the screen.

I have 2 MarCum's, one is a LX1 and the other is a LX5. Both units have been nothing short of perfect as far as performance goes even for thier age.

With that said, I can say the same about my Bird 55 unit and my older Vex FL8.

Which ones do I use the most, the Bird 55 and the LX5. My Granddaughters use the LX1 and the FL8.

I'm in the same mindset. I really want to upgrade my Vex 18 to a LX7 but all the posts on software issues or just issues in general scare me. The old spinners never have a problem regardless of the manufacturer. They are the future though.

So you marcum guys, how do you get your unit to read in shallow mud? I am struggling with mine shallow. It goes from not reading the jig or depth to reading depth and so much interference I can't see my jig. Any pointers? Lx-9 here.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
