Titan fuel capacity.

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious. I have a 2010 Nissan Titan pro4x crew cab. The manual, and everywhere where I look says it has a 28 gallon fuel capacity. However, when I run it down to "27 miles until empty", and fuel up, the most I've ever put in was 22.5 gallons. Do I have more miles till empty??

One way to find out. Put a 5 gallon can of gas in the back, and drive it until it dies. Put the 5 gallons in and drive to the gas station.

I'd bet you have whatever the specs for your vehicle show you have. I'd never intentionally run out of fuel. Fuel cools your fuel pump. An overheated pump can fail or shorten the life. Nobody likes fuel pump failures. Pushing fuel level to the limits is just not in the best interest of your vehicle. My two bits worth...

My gas light in my Tundra comes on with 5 gallons left in the tank. I've pushed it to see if accurate and after about 80 miles one time I put in 25 gallons and I think it is a 25.5 gallon tank.

That is a good point. Guess I am stuck in the carbs and mechanical fuel pump thinking.

Most vehicles with gas lights are set so the light will come on when you have roughly 60 miles to go till empty. Yes there is a fudge factor for people like my wife who will drive until it is empty just to see how many miles they can actually drive.

Now you need to remember that in the winter or pulling a trailer changes your fuel economy. So if you normally get 20mpg that means you have 3 gallons left every time that light comes on. It is usually set based on city mpg on your window sticker. ie, my truck city mpg is 12 so when the light comes on I have 5 gallons until empty.

I haven't had a titan but nearly every truck I've had has a couple gallons left when the computer says your empty. My current truck is a Ford F-350 and when it says I'm empty I put in about 22 gallons on a 26 gallon tank. A 26 gallon tank on an F-350 is a joke in it self but that's for another thread.

Jeffb, I know what you mean. A buddy of mine has a 3/4 ton diesel with a tank that I think is smaller than yours! Pulling his trailer up to canada it is fill up, look for the next diesel station, fill up, look for the next diesel station, ………. One time we had to sleep in the trailer overnight waiting for the station to open up in the morning. I think his range was 180 miles or something like that.
