This is out of the regs:

Bait - Bait is allowed for the purposes of attracting a wolf to take by legal firearms, bow and arrow, or trapping. Note: The use of bait for wolf hunting or trapping is legal this year within applicable laws. However, the deposit of carcasses not associated with legal baiting or on public lands, or on private lands without the consent of the owner, constitutes litter. Also the Minnesota Board of Animal Health requires that carcasses from domestic animals must be disposed of as soon as possible after death, usually within 48 to 72 hours, by burial, composting, or incineration. The disposal or placement of livestock carcasses on public land constitutes litter. Use of live bait may constitute cruelty to animals.

If you can get a tag, and can even see a Wolf, and can even get it in to range. Just shoot the Dam thing and don't screw around with a Bow!

I agree Leech it'll be dead either way. With our luck someone will sting one with an arrow only to run around with that arrow in it's hind end and that will be the new howling for wolves logo.

If mn would let the season run until the end of the season I think it may be doable but with a quota it would be the time limiting factor. I think calling it an area of high numbers may work but getting a shot would be tough, i think baiting would be the toughest unless you have tons of time and a hungry wolf.

Try coyote hunting with a bow and find something that kills them consistent and you just may have a shot at a wolf.

I have shot several coyotes while deer hunting with my bow and most have caught me drawing even when they are on a trot. One caught me and I let go, and he was quick enough to spin around and get it in the chest on the opposite side i was shooting.

Leech and Musky Buck, I'm trying to figure out the best way to reply to you both... On one hand I totally agree with the basic idea you are saying- just shoot the stinkin' thing. It'll be cool to shoot one with any weapon and you'll be doing the deer, moose, and everything else a favor. On the other hand, I'm not a gun hunter. I bow hunt. Wolves are about the only animal I'd even consider using a gun for, but I won't. I'm a bowhunter and I bowhunt. I have absolutely no issue with gun hunters or gun hunting, but I'm a bowhunter. If I don't shoot one because I'm "screwing around" with a bow, so be it. If the law allows me to "screw around" with my bow, I'll happily choose to do so.

As far as leaving an arrow in a wolf and having that being a source of fodder for the lefty wolf lovers, I'll let other people worry about that. I understand the issue/concern, but I won't lose a second's sleep over it.

Hunter, I hear ya regarding coyotes. They're smart, have sharp eyes, and have remarkable ears. Given what I know about wolves, which admittedly isn't a lot, it'd be even tougher to get a crack of one. If people think I'm stupid for trying for one with a bow, I'm comfortable with that. I've been called a lot of names for doing dumber things and I've succeeded at some of them. Of course, I've crashed and burned with a good plenty of them too. It doesn't matter. To me, it all comes down to how I might define success for the trip- I could hunt wolves with my bow, bust my behind, never see an animal, and have a very successful hunt. Or, I could pull a horseshoe out of my behind and have the stars align too. Only one way to find out.

Good question I should put in for one this year. Last year my buddy had a tag and I saw a Wolf and he didn't and had used a call and spent hour trying. I was just on my Deer stand!

Scoot, we've got a white one like that running around us. It almost ran over my buddy two years ago when he was sitting on a log. Last year another friend of mine, who happened to be scared of wolves, called it in with his can call to about 8 yards! He got out of his stand well before light that day!

Thanks Scoot! It's still the only animal I've ever entered in any record book. When I shot it there only 4 entries in SCI for archery wolf, I knew I was guaranteed a top 5 entry! It was #2 at the time but now is tied for 3rd.

That's more than a wolf lol, mercy, just got last night the dreaded e-mail I've been waiting on 1st ever wolf track in the swamp, Frosty from here sent me that last night, was not happy to get that update, these guys walk that swamp daily and have for 50 years now and coyote it every winter so maybe not the first but our first proof and Ottertail County it is. Glad he's in there stirring the wintering deer up during these last cold days it's good for em, exercise em, I hope he or she moved on, bet the deer are like what on earth is that thing run for your life, I hope frosty reports no further tracks seen in the near future.Technically it was 2013 yet when they found the track so I can tell that to the grandkids someday. MN Wolf if they set up shop on or near my grounds I will be looking for some of you to take care of business in there if it would be worth your time next season.

I was kidding Leech, we need to go Montana on the wolves here I think, they want only roughly 500 on their ground with all the forage types of animals they have available and we want what # ? with basically 1 kind of forage, idk about that. I need to check with several Ottertail county uncles and see now after 2 years of hunting/trapping them what the status is and u bet wolves found or will find my ground with a wintering herd of deer in it, the first has been there just so it's a loner and all's well, if a pack sets up oh lord, game changer big time.

I would bet they have been there and are more than that one.

They have a knack of not being seen. And surprising enough they are not as nocturnal as you think. Many times we see fresh tracks made during the daylight hours, and this year for instance, the first wolf we seen was seen about 4 miles south of were we seen it about 45 min earlier this was midmorning.

Last year my uncle seen one and got his daughter who had a tag and in the 20 min it took her to get dressed the wolf had covered 3 miles and was just traveling.

Also they are not all that scared of people, they just sneak around and won't bust cover unless they are pushed hard. We pushed on out deerhunting and he mearely walked out the corner and jogged across the field and only came out maybe 100yds infront of the drivers.
