hamms-scooter
You tighten the Allen bolt then hold that with Allen wrench and tighten the nut on other side .took the slight wobble out I had. Sure you have tried that though. Call nils directly in Vermont that have great service.
Fred_Bear
I was always a believer since buying a 6" hand auger what seems like a decade ago. I've had the Tanaka power head and 8" bit now for two full years of ice. Never been really happy with it. I get the death wobble and think that the bit tightened to the collar is not machined right. I've done countless searches and saw comments about adding crush washers, check the bit for warpage, how to tighten the bolt to the flat.. etc. Considering the amount of posts about having to send new blades to Frank for correction after just being bought and my issue leaves me sad for what should be a great product. Frank does do a great job and even better customer service responding to emails. The wobble affects the cut at the end of a fresh hole and if I ever want to reopen a hole in the perm. It is so bad that I often think that the blade will be damaged permanently. The strike master 224 that I sold to buy this never gave me any problems besides bit ice up from using it so much. Anyone with suggestions or know of a Tanaka or Nils dealer representative that could try my auger and tell me what to do? I have the power point and regular blade for it. I like the power point because with the wobble its easier to guide and start a hole. I have a Lazer 224 in perfect condition that I would trade towards your Nils/tanaka. PM if interested

bee
I have a friend who got a new Tanaka/Nils last year. It also had a wobble. It turned out to be that the mount piece that is welded on the top of the flighting was welded on crooked. He got pics and talked with JP and they replaced his. Valleye
Finally had the opportunity to put the Nils on ice today and it wouldn't start. Must have pulled on it 20 times...still wouldn't fire. After a brief rest ,I tried again, pulling the recoil several times...still no go.Now,standing there wondering what could be wrong...did I miss something? Yes! I forgot to flip the switch to on! First pull and it's running. Cut's holes like a hot knife through butter. What a sweet machine. That dam On switch! Always the culprit. If I had a dollar for every time I've done something like that in my 59 years of living,we could go out and have a good time somewhere. mamohr686
I've never got my nils to get out of the "lodged in the ice problem". I've tried both premium and regular gas, synthetic and regular oil and every thing else. It starts out fast, then the engine slows down and the blades are stuck. Wobble the auger out, drill 4-6" and repeat wobble. I'm ready to sell unless someone else has the answer. I'm not willing to dump any more money into this expensive auger. Roger_Tango
Bought a nils this morning. Ran two tanks of 80:1 through it with the head off. Took it out to the lake still running that mix and it would bog down every 4-5". Cuts like butter but only 5" at a time, all my buddies said take it back and go back to using my old jiffy but I love punching a ton of holes and really just want to get the nils running right. Any help is appreciated.
Esox_Magnum
Should run 50:1 first couple tanks, also while running without the bit did you rev as you cycled the choke?
Roger_Tango
Ahh, I was following northlanders break in regimine I found on here, and yes to the choke playing.

aanderud
When I bought my nilsmaster it did the same exact thing -- bog down every 3-5 inches of ice or so. Worked great with my second blade, so I knew there was something funky with the blade it came with. I found some info online about a bad batch they had where the blades had the wrong pitch (too aggressive), and mine was manufactured during this timeframe. I assumed this was what it was, so I sent the blade back to nilsmaster, and had great luck with the replacement I got eventually. Luckily for me I had a second blade to use during this fiasco. If I was in this position right now with an auger that cuts only 5 inches at a time, I'd send the blade to nilsmaster if you have a second blade you can run in the meanwhile. Or, you could send it to Frank DeLuca and have him sharpen it -- faster service than you'll get with nilsmaster, and it'll be sharper than a factory blade anyway. harvey lee
Frank does an awesome job on the Nil's cutting heads, best around and turn around time is the best
Evobassfish
Send it to Frank to get the cutting head re-shapened.
Roger_Tango
Send it to Frank to get the cutting head re-shapened. Going to send it in as soon as the new blade gets here, drilled with my buddies sm that I got Him today and it's a killer with all that torque.
