think the weather will hurt the ice?

Depends on how much. If it gets wet on top of the ice and then the snow will collect more and won't blow across the ice. Getting 6-12" of snow will hurt also. It will sag the ice and insulate it so it won't freeze as fast. Will end up with slush on just about every lake. We needed the cold snap before we got the big snow, that would have added a few more inches of ice before we got all the weight on it.

With the cold snap at the end of the week here, I think we will be just fine, worst case scenario the rain does affect the ice enough to open it up, and then the wind picks up...could wreak havoc on the lakes, but for the most part I believe they are locked up tight.

Ottertail and West Battle have really big dark wet spots on them.. The water is really flooding thru the cracks as of todays snow. Granted they only have about 3-4 inches of ice in these areas. Rush was fine tonight as I rode the snowmobile across. Did not hit one slushy area, we shall see what tomorrow and wed snow brings. I believe we are in for a long winter on Ottertail. Going to be some unsafe ice, and looking at some flooding for some time..

The cold air will rush in after the snowfall is ending, as the low pressure center pulls away from the area. The heavy snow will have already fallen, before the cold air really starts adding to the ice thickness. New snowfall= insulating blanket on the ice. Not good. Looks like another interesting first ice up period, again, this year.

Yup some areas and lakes will be affected more from this slop/snow. Like every early ice, keep vigil and check the thickness often. If you get out and have the time to give a ice report, those are always nice.
