I copied someone on here and put my HDS 5 on a pro pack. It is a bit of a tight fit but basically the HDS 5 will fit into a Vexi mount. Last year I used it just for the GPS. Worked great bungied onto a 4 wheeler, just like being on the boat. This year bought the ice ducer to see if I like using the LCD instead of a flasher.

Can't wait to try it the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I have been toying with possibly putting a ram mount on my vexilar but I am interested to know what advantage this has given you, or anyone? Also...

Has anyone seen or done a mod to attach a handheld GPS to their flashers? Wether it is hooked up to the battery source or not. This is where I thought a ram mount might be handy...

The advantage for me was two fold. First off, I can get the vex up a little higher when using it on the blue box. And sitting there for hours staring down at it, even getting it up just a little more is nice. It also enable me to push the blue box off tight to the side of the portie and just turn the vex so I can see it. One more thing kept out of the way.

Secondly, I put Ram rail mounts on both sides of the support pole that runs up and towards the top of the front "wall" of the fish house. Then when fishing out of my portable I can use those mounts and have the vex's sitting up far closer to eye level. I installed 12v accesory plug ins on each side of my sled, and have a 10ah werker battery hooked to each. I then have a 2 way 12v plug into each outlet, and can power the vex and led lights for each side of the shack independently from those plug ins.

I will try and take some pics tomorrow.

I mounted a ram mount for my iFinder H2O on my FL-20, gonna have another mounted to the 28, I attached it in the same spot the battery indicater is, opposite side. Makes hole hopping much more efficient for me, no more digging in my pocket for the GPS to mark a hot area. I also have a Lowrance Globalmaps unit mounted to Genz Pack. Great for in the vehicle. Will try to get some pictures up.

I've noticed that the height and moveable base helps with sun glare. The eye bolt gets rid of the float the cord management from the cork board studs is self explanatory.

I lovey modifications.

Sorry for the delay and low quality pictures! Nothing to special, just mounted the base ball to the flat plate used for the battery indicator, digital depth indicator etc. This is my third year using this system and haven't had a single issue with it. Maybe next on the bench will be a Vexilar and 5" GPS unit set up like the double vision. Don't think the logistics of it would work out, plus it would be fairly heavy for hole hopping in my opinion. But never hurts to try. Any other questions let me know!

I haven't used my H20c much the last couple years because of having to take it out of my pocket I may as well use my iPhone. But with all these mods, looks like I should mount it to my flasher!

Only problem is I have a Marcum LX3 and so far I haven't seen any mods for those...?

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
