When I lost my job four and a half years ago, I figured I could do without the expense of my dish. Once I found a job, I thought that life without tv wasn't too bad, so I never hooked it up again especially with high speed internet and all the stuff I can stream. I tried Netflix for a while, but found the choices limited after six months. The only things I really miss are Gopher basketball and Twins baseball. Oh, and here in Detroit Lakes, a rooftop antenna is worthless.

We've lived in the country for years with no cable TV. I got a good antenna (about 100 bucks I think) at Radio Shack, and we get perfect reception of the available stations. Thats enough for me...more to life than the tube. Granted, we do have hi speed internet...:)

I dropped cable 5+ years ago and don't miss it at all.

I do have access to the basic channels but find that I rarely watch them any more. I can go a month at a time without turning on the tv. I thought I'd miss having access to the Twins games but as it turns out it just saved me years of frustration watching 100 losses a year.

Its amazing what else you can find to do when you don't have tv around. I also find that most of the alternatives are healthier. They either have me up and off the couch moving around or they have me doing something that takes more brain power.

We moved about 8 years ago to the country. We decided against any of the satellite carriers and cable TV wasn't an option. We are able to get high speed internet off a tower. I spent over 700 dollars for a quality antennae, booster, digital rotor, and to have it installed on my old windmill tower which is almost 90 feet in the air.

We get over 60 TV stations from Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and as far north as Duluth and we are just south of Rochester.

I love my antennae coupled with netflix. We have boxes that allow us to stream TV over the internet and watch them on our big TV's. The only times it is really aweful is on Weekends when there are no sports. It's all infomercials. A great note is that we will often get 4 to 6 different football games on from noon to six on Sundays. Our antennae is good enough that I can toggle between Mn Fox stations and Wis Fox stations so I can watch the packers and the vikings play at the same time. At least now when nothing is on TV, it isn't costing me anything. My upfront cost was substantial but was actually only about a years worth of dish payments.

Did the same thing as Cicada. Got laid off about 4.5 years ago and "cut the fat" in our house. Disconnected Dish and have never hooked it back up. After going with "rabbit ears" during the layoff, we went to BB and got a new antenna when I got another job. It's an interior antenna, very strong and can pull a signal from quite a distance. Really don't get any interference in the cities. At the cabin we pull our signal from Duluth. We use the same type of antenna and it still works great. Go to the blue store and they'll be able to hook you up with what you need for your situation.

we pulled cable late last winter, don't regret it yet, certainly don't regret the junk we never watched but paid for anyway

do have Netflix for the kids, but if there nuttin on, just helps push the family outside to nature or family game time indoors. no more being glued to the tv by anyone cause all must have's & must see's are gone

Lots of good points here to get rid of cable, now you all got me thinking. When I comes to antennas I know the higher you can get it the more stations and clearer they are.(normally) My cousin up north has an antenna and he told me if I was to do that he said get one with the biggest small end (the little tubes up top)you could find. He worked for a telephone co. and a residential electrition so he explain it his terms that went right over my head. Anybody here know what he may have been talking about. I think it was something about bring in a certain signal.
