Yup, I don't know anyone who is excited about the changes. Will be glad to have college puck back but man its just not the same, might take a while to get use to this mess. I hope Penn State just gets pounded on for basically the rest of my life.

Easy boys, after all flickertail is just a fancy way to spell gopher.

But seriously, Army at Penn State on the big ten network? That should really bring the ratings. Hockey on that network will be replaced by soccer and lacrosse before spring.

And for the third time this week I am gonna have to agree with Bear. This season is gonna be weird with the conference blown to pieces. At least we still get regular shots at a bunch of the good old WCHA teams you guys only have Sconni.

I stillndont know these fighting Sioux or Sioux are in which you speak?

I've heard university of north Dakota may have a good program again but had a scare tonight by a substandard opponent. By the way the whoiux fans talk it would be kinda like an FBS (whioux) team playing an FCS team go bison

Only thing I hated more than the CCHA was Hockey East!

I am a GOPHERS fan through and through. Hate St Cloud, Mankato, Sconni, and most of all the Sioux, BUT, I was pumped all week long when there was a big showdown between these teams. The rivalries are second to none. Now I get to think about the Gophers playing a stinking club level team from Penn State that turned D1 so they could play in the Big 10 conference. YUCK. Much as I know it will never happen, I'd like to see the Big 10 Hockey implode and go back to being the WCHA.

Gophers feeding on cupcakes lately but it looks like the freshmen are contributing and the offense is in good shape. After all the firepower we lost I was a little worried. Next 4 games should be interesting, BC and Notre Dame.

These new conferences pretty much blow. Money won out over the intense rivalries of the last 40 years.

Duluth lost on NCHC opening night, but won quite easily on Saturday over CC. Transition year that could be okay, or we could be the dormat of the new division. Strong underclassmen where I hope we can make a push the next 2 years.

They are definitely entertaining. I tell you what, that Friday night game against BC was one of the best hockey games I have seen in years. Possibly since the Gophers beat Maine for the NC. It was end to end and lots of good chances by both teams.

That 17 year old goalie from BC is a stud! They played the other guy Sunday which I think was a bit reflective in the score as well because he wasnt quite as good.

At this point in the season I think our Freshman are definitely taking up the scoring slack that left from last year's team.

I do have a sinking suspicion that Mike Reilly is playing his last season with the Gophers. Man that kid can skate and he is a much headier player this year than last.

If he played his full eligibility out I have no doubt he would rewrite the Defensive scoring record books.

It doesnt matter where teams are at in the standings right now because there is a long season ahead. Having said that the Gophers are #1! LOL

I am pleasantly surprised, no, ecstatic with the youthful scoring on the Gophers this year.

I thought with all the early departures that scoring was going to be a bit of an issue, but man was I wrong. These Freshman can play and score!

Two significant areas for improvement are: Power Play (50th in the nation) and penalty kill (also around 50th in the nation). Its early and lots of youngsters, but those numbers MUST improve to be a factor in the games that matter.

On a side note the "Super Conference" isnt really looking all that super right now. North Dakota is a major disappointment. Why they are still ranked is beyond me. They are terrible right now.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
