Golf balls for decoys

I've heard golf balls make great decoys. If i were to paint half red, would i paint half dividing it right/left, or top/bottom?

Anyone have any advice on using these, and how they work?

Yes...

Paint the top half; the bottom half; the left side; the right side; one stripe; two stripes whatever creative urge you get. I have two chained together with eye hooks (offset just a bit for more wobble action) they work good on a spinner.... but then again even a popcan works good on a spinner.

What did you use for the spinner?

I like the paint then from top to bottom and spin them from a hillbilly spinner so it flashes both colors, kind of puts the fish in a trance.

Ah, the old gulf ball decoy, it has been around for 40 or so years. Some of the old spearers around Waterville clip 3 or 4 daredivels together and jig them. One old guy I knew, he is fishing in the big lake in the sky, used only a prince albert can that he would raise up slow and let down slow. The old boy speared his share of pike.

Merk makes a spinner that has adjustable speeds I think. And there are also actual spinners

I used a daredevil with the hooks off then tie it off to the ring upside down. looks very diffent.

Also tying more daredevils together in different colors will make a rattle sound

I used a red eye wiggler with hooks removed last year. Brought them right to the bottom of the ice.
