How many set ups do you own??

Just out of curiosity how many rod and reel set ups do you own? Right now I have 5 but I feel like I could use 5 more. The more I get into bass fishing I am really seeing how specific tactics require different tools to get the job done.

How many do I have? Too many. How many do I NEED?

Two more... smile

A serious answer:

It varies from day to day and by season, but generally speaking I have 8-10 casting combos and and 6 or 7 spinning combos.

I carry more than I truly need because I hate retying while I'm fishing. I'd rather drop one rod and pick up another. So I have some that strictly speaking are pretty redundant and I could easily do without. In a couple cases they're identical rods and reels.

So the large number is a consequence of my own laziness more than actual necessity smile

I have the space to spare in the boat, so I can handle it storage-wise. But if someone forced me, I could easily get by with less than half that.

RK i'm considering getting a new boat, but don't want to sacrifice the current rod storage that i have in my boat. I too can easily store 15 rods and 10 of those can be up to 10' long. Got a picture of your boat to show the rod storage?

I could probably go take some. That's one of the things I love about my Tundra - rod storage is insane. I can fit probably 15 or so combos up to 7'6" in the centerline rod locker and probably a dozen more in each side locker, and those can be who knows how long. I can fit 9' trolling rods in there no problem. Almost too much of a good thing because I have a hard time talking myself out of bringing more than I really need. Nice for multi-species trips though.

I recounted and came up with some different numbers then my orignal count.

I usually bring 8 poles with on a typical Bass outing:

7 BC's and 1 spinning.

If I count every pole I own including those at the cabin, then I came up with at least 20+.

A person can never have too many fishin poles! Some how my wife thinks I should only own 2 at the most! Really.

I counted all my rods not too long ago. Let's just say the number was large to the point of being frightening.

The list of things you can never have too many of is pretty short IMHO:

- fishing rods

- hunting boots

- AA batteries

- vacation days

Uhh...I think that might be it.

When the BOSS starts questioning whether I need as many fishing rods I have, I have a two word rebuttal that usually ends the conversation:

"black shoes."

I fish out of a 17' walleye boat so my storage is limited. My rod locker holds 5 rods up to 6 1/2 feet so my 7 footers and anything over five rods sits on the floor.

I would love to have more combos, but admit that I wouldn't want to change line on 20+ reels every year.

I keep 23 rods in my boat, all bait casters. No Fairy wands(spinning outfits). All rigged and ready to go with different baits, colors, lines and reel speeds.Depends on the day. I try to keep only 4-6 on the deck, but that can change instantly.

Probably more than i need, but definitely not more than i want. I have 8 different spinning rods that get bass use/bass rigged throughout the year, although some of them i haven't even used yet this year, but they are rigged and ready to go.

Baitcast, yikes! 15 different baitcasters that get bass use or are rigged up for bass fishing. Although, again like my spinning rods, I would say at least 5 of them have gotten limited use thus far this year. Especially this year. For whatever reason my jig/t-rig/punch rods have gotten a workout and my crankbait rods have collected dust, but i usually use cranks more later in the year anyway.

My rod storage in my boat is terrible, i never even use it for rods. I pretty much just move them from the boat to my vehicle to the shop at my house. I typically leave certain rods in my vehicle or house depending on the lake(s) im fishing and the time of year im fishing it.

Im always browsing tackle shops and the internet for new rods and reels to upgrade some of my older stuff, even though i really don't need to!
