Ponder for Freeman

Freeman is getting as much as both Cassel and Ponder combined and for only 10 games

and all 3 combined arent making half of what an average starter makes

Its not like they are paying Freeman a ton of money to come in so I am not exactly sure I buy into the fact that Cassel has to play perfect. If they were paying someone $8M at this point I would say Cassel is on a VERY short leash, but Freeman is getting $3M which is comparable to Ponder and Cassel so I dont see this as something where he will be named the starter definitively unless there is an injury or Cassel plays very poorly.

I think its Cassel's job to lose at this point.

Why sign him at all if you don't plan on playing him unless your starter goes down? It just doesn't make since to bring him in and sit him on the bench for the year and then let him walk away.

Some people are thinking Freeman is going to come in and start this week. Stranger things have happened, but I think Cassel has earned the right to start this week allowing Freeman more time to acclimate to the offense.

$3M isnt a lot of money to have someone sit on the bench as an insurance policy. But if they were paying him $5M or more, you can guarantee he would be out there starting sooner rather than later.

Do I think Freeman will start this season? Probably. But to think just because he was signed = he will be playing the rest of the season is a stretch.

I am not convinced he is the long term solution, but probably closer than either Ponder or Cassel.

there is no question he is being brought in here to start games after week 7!! Otherwise why would they bring him in for that amount just to be a 2nd or 3rd string? They want to see if they can create an environment for him to be what he has shown he can be and if they can't oh well it will be for the end of a season that was poor anyways!! If he succeeds then we might right the ship and salvage the season

No doubt we brought in Sagebrush Rosenfels to carry Brett's clipboard around. I think the thinking is Freeman is also 25 years old I believe. Should be interesting to see how it all shakes out by the new year.

I am sure he wouldnt play for us anyhow. He would just demand a trade. Kinda like when the Chargers drafted him. I had zero respect for this egotistical clown ever since.
