Camoflage for my three boys

I will be taking my three boys out on an early season goose hunt this weekend. We will be hunting over field decoys sitting in the corn. I need to get them some camo T-shirts or maybe tank tops considering the hot weather. At any rate my question is are there any suggestions on the best place to get camo hats, tshirt and pants for kids? Every expense is X3 for me me so saving a few bucks really matters. Thanks.

My advice. Get each of them a leaf cut camo suit. http://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/master-sportsman-leafy-cut-suit/0000000074702

$70 at FF.

They are mosquito netting thick, breath excellant. I bought this exact same one 5 years ago and i tend to hunt 20+ days a year and run through brush yet don't tear it. Worn it turkey hunting in 80 degrees and i can stay cool by limiting my clothing underneath. I wear it over rain gear, my winter gear, etc...

They can wear jeans and any t-shirt under this suit for warm days and cool days a coat, rain gear, etc... Best camo out there for any hunt.

Can't say enough about how good it works as camoflauge.

$70x3 will get you more for your money than trying to buy camo t-shirts, and evenually they'll need coats, pants, etc... As kids, this will work really well for them IMO.

Erik,

I'd second Truth's recommendation of an over layer leaf suit if $210 isn't too much. I used one for many seasons but eventually quit due to washing out the color too much.

I would often wear white underneath for tree stand or winter hunting to lighten things up a bit. It was almost eerie how many deer looked through me even at under 20 yards on the ground.

If they're not going to be out ALOT with you, I wouldn't over think it and just get them some old neutral colored clothing that blends with the cover you're hunting and maybe spray a couple paint stripes across it to break up the outline. Tell them keeping their movements to minimum is the best camo...

When I take my kids goose hunting in fields I simply put up a pop up blind. kids have a really hard time sitting still so the blinds hit everything. Brushed in well with wheat, hay, corn should not affect the geese that much. I have even set it up in plain site in a pasture and the geese came in just the same. If you go in the morning it should not be unbearbly hot. Hopefully. Just my 2 cents... full-5079-35930-jack1.jpg

They have some very inexpensive camo for kids at Walmart. Last week I saw kids camo t shirts on clearance for $2 each. You should be able to get pants and shirt for $25-$30 each. You can do a search on their site for camouflage and you will be surprised how inexpensive even name brand stuff is for kids. Saw real tree bibs for boys $24.95 but the non name brand stuff is less.

Truth, that photo is awesome!

Good Hunting!

Thanks for the good info. Truth, I like how you made it work with gettiing your daughter outfitted to hunt. I can always figure out a way to get my boys out hunting or fishing. We will be sitting in the corn so that is a good point, a hat and some face paint (camo or neutral colors)and we should be set. I'll have to get the little madmen to sit still but thats going to take a little practice. I took Friday off from work so I imagine we will be out in the field Friday evening for sure. My boys are on a summer schedule right now getting to bed around 10:00 so shaking them out of bed (they are 6,8,10) at 5:00 a.m. might not make for a great day come evening. I'll stick to evening hunts but it's going to be hot for sure. Thanks again.

If you are in a cornfield, just buy camo burlap and make ponchos out of them. Couple of headsets and your set. I bring a camo chair out for my son, when the geese come, I just throw leafy camo fabric over him ghost style. He can usually see through the holes in the fabric an once the shooting starts he just throws it off. I've also found good camo at places like target or jc pennys on clearance. It's old school military camo colors, but it works fine. Much cheaper there than buying it at a hunting store and paying for the name brand and the mossy oak pattern rights.

Good stuff the main thihng is getting out and everything else is a detail. I was luck enough to bring my brother and his son and daughter out last Saturday. We managed a few even though our shooting was a bit lacking. I'm looking forward to bringing my three boys out this weekend. Good luck all

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
