I have a 2011 EcoBoost Maxtow crewcab. I have 17000 miles on mine and love it! It pulls my 29' travel trailer like a dream. I just love the truck and the engine! For your application you can't go wrong with either, but in my opinion the EcoBoost is where it is at.

With a heavier trailer( I know it has breaking system) do you feel like it has a safe stopping ability with the lighter body truck of the 150 compared to say a 250 or gm 2500 or 3/4 ton. In otherwords an 8500 lb loaded trailer pushing a 5000 lb truck at emergency stop, compared to that same 8500 lbs pushing into a 6500 lb tow vehicle? Any sway with trailer? I also have weight distribution and sway bar. thx.

I am not an expect any longer in F-150's but what used to dictate the difference between a 250, 350, ext. was pulling "power" being key. The suspension yes, to an extent, but the power plant was the focus.

I do know that the F-150/Expedition underwent drastic changes in the mid-early 2000's. For example, the 2006 Expedition I owned is nothing like my 2000. My 2000 was a full framed truck minus the box and some frame rails extensions, yada, yada.

I have a 2012 Eco, Screw 4x4 3.55, I pulled a 27' toy hauler with a bike in it and it had no problem power wise,It was somewhere around 7000 lbs. brake controller worked excellent, gearing worked well with the Eco, I would get 3.73 if getting the 5.0 though due to the torque curve being at a higher rpm.

I have just under 30k on mine and have not had any warranty issues yet, Mileage is excellent for the size of the truck, it is quiet, rides great, No complaints at all. Best of all it is a American Company with a lot of employees in the Midwest.

I forgot to put in the post, I did run into some 40+ mph side winds out in SD with the camper behind and it was a scary handful, I had the Reese WDH with sway control but I was down to 50 mph at times due to the swaying of the camper and truck, extreme conditions and I don't know if a heavier truck would have helped but I did get passed by several 5th wheel 1 ton's.

Out of curiosity, why did you not have a factory T.B.C. installed, and your Instrument cluster updated? ( I have done the mod. on customers trucks, but I have not "played" with or used it)

You know what I think I am getting my years messed up, up maybe this is only for the 2012-13's? I dunno I just do what I'm told.

I have the factory brake control, The Reese is a weight distributing hitch (equalizer hitch) and it included a anti-sway system into the equalizer bars, The camper I had was very heavy on the hitch, 1100 lbs loaded, so I used the 1200 lbs hitch bars on it.

the sway control on the hitch is mechanical. The sway control built into the programming of the truck can only do so much. Physics and inertia are still more powerful than any fancy programming and brake controlling that Ford could come up with.

The sway control on the truck uses the truck to try and control a swaying 7000lb weight attached at the rearmost point of the vehicle. Sway control on the hitch uses the movement of the trailer to activate clutches or hydralics on the hitch to stop the swaying.

A 5th wheel trailer is inherently easier to control because it isn't attached at the rearmost portion of the vehicle. By being attached inside the bed and over the rear axle the truck has far more control over the action of the trailer. 1ton truck or not a 5er is easier to tow in a crosswind.

Probably going to be in the market for an F150 next summer and just wondering if any of you can recommend good dealerships in MN (I94 corridor). Figure most of them will be cheaper than everything out here in western ND.

Honestly ,wait till the fall and buy the new F150 Atlas. Supposed to be out in fall of 2014. I have bought all my trucks throughout the years at Midway Ford in Roseville. Family owned and really good, knowledgable people in both sales and service.

Just do a search. It's been all over the car show circuits, nationally and internationallyand the concept has shown up in most of the car and truck mags also ford has an official press release on the truck as well.

I will throw a vote out there against Midway Ford in Roseville, as I was looking at trucks there a few years back, and the salesman for the truck I was looking at refused to give me the keys back to the truck I was driving, as he had a "deal"....No signed paperwork from me, I told him that I didn't want the truck due to numerous reason. Still wouldn't produce the keys to my truck, I had to threaten to call the Roseville Police Department and report my truck stolen.....Guess what, that produced the keys, and they had already pulled my truck around back to have it put out on the lot or ready for auction. I never signed any paper work for the truck I was looking at. VERY POOR SALES DEPARTMENT!!!! My parents also had a run in with their serivce department on their brand new 1996 F250 that they bought and the cat. coverter went bad with less then 10,000 miles on the truck, and they said it wasn't covered under warranty. I would steer clear of them if it were me. Ended up buying my current truck at Metroploitan Ford in Eden Prairie.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
