Ice Cleats

What is a good pair of ice cleats that would fit over my massive lacrosse pac boots? I've never owned a pair and would like to get some for when the snow is gone. I've always walked past them in stores since they look like they'd never fit and I can't judge how much they'd stretch.

I bought some of those inexpensive HT black rubber ones and they are much better than nothing. I wish they had "heel" teeth. I got the biggest size and they are actually a bit big for my size 11 sorel -30F packs. (You can twist the heel strap to tighten a bit)

Go to an ATV accessory store and buy some tire studs 1/2" in length. (I prefer the brand "Gold Screws"

Take a screw gun/cordless drill, put a 5/16th" socket in the chuck, and screw 4 in each heel, and 5 in the front. I put them on the edges so there is no way they will ever penetrate into the foot.

Heel (4 screws): 2 in the rear, 2 in the front. In the front sole

(5 screws), 1 in the toe and 2 on each side.

They can be removed each time if you wish, or left on for the season.

DO NOT WALK ON A HARDWOOD FLOOR WITH THEM IF YOUR WIFE HAS ANY HOMICIDAL TENDENCIES!!! grin

They have fantastic traction. In fact, you could run as fast as you can on glare ice without ever slipping!

Micro spikes.

I have size 15 Irish setter 1000g boots.

they broke in the first month, and they replaced them in about 3 days.

Never worn a better pair of spikes.

They fit on my boots fine, little tight. Wish they made an xxl...but i also wish i could but my boot in a 16.

Worn them over tennis shoes too. Great product.

Mr Ice Deluxe. from scheels

Got them in january and i like them. they are a micro spike. gotta remember if the snow gets too thick you will slide, as any of them will. My friend had the HT with just to grip on the front, ended up breaking his leg this winter on the ice. You really need grip on the heal of the foot- the heal touches first on every step.

I bought a set of screw in spikes from Marine General this winter. $15 for the set including the tool to install the spikes. I will never use "slip on" grippers again. As stated earlier, you don't want to walk on wood or vinyl flooring as they will tear it up fast. Once on the ice, you don't even know you are using spikes but they are 100% non-slip. You can remove them after the ice season is over and use them next year.

Over the last 4 winters I've used the $20 Artic Spurs. I'm a fan of them - I'm sure I would like microspikes as well but I've never tried them. I have gotten my moneys worth over the year and they are super easy to put on. Saved my tailbone many times now!

I bought some Kako ICEtrekkers Diamond Grips this fall when they were on sale. They did slip on the ice once and can become clogged with snow and slush if it is wet. Very hard to put on my boots. Will probably scouting for something else next winter.
