graf703
I know you're looking for a premium priced boot, but I picked up a pair of the military "mickey" rubber boots and they are awesome. Very warm and comfortable plus 100% waterproof. The tread absolutely sucks on bare ice... But I have cleats for that.I paid $25 at sportsman's. Walleye Guy
I was wearing my Baffins in that pike picture. You just need to scroll down to the very bottom of the picture to see them!
highlife4me
I got a pair of the Alpha Ice Kings last fall. Never had cold feet while fishing. I have heard complaints of them being bulky but they are no worse than other boots I have worn. Heck I even driven with them on with my ice cleats. shamus
I picked up a pair of Baffin Titans this year and love them. If you're in the Metro you can try on much of the Baffin line at Joe's Sporting Goods on hwy 36. Also check zapposDOTcom for good deals. ChuckN
If you don't plan on standing in water, I recommend Stieger Mukluks. You will NEVER find a warmer, more comfortable boot anywhere. The only downside is you can’t be in standing water but they are very water resistant once treated. You can wear them outside in the harshest conditions and then sit around the camp in them like they are slippers. Your feet don't get cold or hot. I absolutely love my Steger Camucks. I've found they are very waterproof in water, snow, etc.. The best late season pheasant hunting boots I've worn (I dropped through thin ice into water; dry feet). They are not steel toed or anything like that, but you won't find a warmer, lighter boot. Worth every penny..
yoppdk
Thanks for all the input ... I appreciate it. I ended up ordering a pair of Baffin Apex. Got a size larger and they fit great. Looking forward to getting out into the snow with them.
motley man
Been using white military surplus paratrooper boots for years and the cost and performance have been great. Little bulky, but you get used to them. Waterproof, warm, and durable.
yakfisher
I know it's too late, but +3 for Steger Mukluks! Warm, comfortable, priced the same as high end kicks, and made right here at home in Minnesota!
Zenit
+4 for the Steger Mukluks....I own both the Camucks and the Yukons, and I doubt I'll ever have to buy another pair of boots for ice fishing ever again. I also HIGHLY recommend his mittens....I wear the Ice Armor fingerless gloves (index and thumb) with the Steger mittens over them, I haven't used a handwarmer in years. As an aside at the recent World Ice Fishing Championships, I bartered a few USA hats for a pair of the Muck Arctic Sport boots that one of the Kazakh team members bought for use over here and didn't want to lug them home/didn't have space for. I am trying them out at the NAIFC tournament this weekend here at Lake Menomen, WI, and I have to say they are very comfortable. This weekend the weather is not cold, so tough to say how warm they would be in adverse conditions, but they are rated to -40 F and I've heard others say they stand up well in the ultimate boot test, whe0n you are standing a foot of slushy goop that happens with a big two day thaw followed by a foot of snow (Lake Hebgen, MT at the beginning of February. )
Scott M
Lots of great suggestions...my biggest problem is finding a 16. I've been cramming into 15's when I can find them. Might have to go the mukluks route since those are custom made. My Columbia Bugbootoos have held out for a few years now, I'm probably only halfway through their use but it never hurts to plan ahead. yoppdk
Size 16? Offda! Bigfoot lives! But really, you must have a really hard time finding the right size.
