Is there any good trails that run through north side of St. Cloud/Sartell area that will allow studs or just any kind of trail system, might make a trip down there Sunday to ride with my brother.

MR

MR,

Couple things you could do. If you dropped off in st joe, the trails take off right by cty rd 75. the one that runs north towards avon is asphalt so no studs allowed i believe. then there is a trail that runs thru N sartell towards st stephen that is not paved. you could take that one. otherwise you could drop off in st stephen and connect from there.personally i take the ditches most of the time and run the whole st stephen bowlus elmdale area. i dont know if you can cross the rice bridge yet (river not safe) without going on concrete but wear rods are cheap so you could cross there on the bridge to hit rice etc. or you could go up hwy 10 and drop off in rice. i doubt there are any groomers out but ditches are a blast. also once they do start grooming we head east of the river because morrison county probably does the best job on the trails around here.

with the amount and consistency of snow we receive this isnt going to happen. even with a base and the number of groomers most clubs have in mn you get one saturday and there is no way they will keep up regardless. like i said before in another post that when we go to wisc/up they run multiple groomers 24/7 and they dont ever have time to have a base get set. however they maintain them very well. so you need a couple things to have good trails. snow and 24 hour grooming. we have neither in mn or at least in my area. thats why i mostly run the ditches, just watch for the culverts. if i work weekends and can only ride during the week why should i wait so that the weekend warriors have nice trails. this isnt the case, i work during the week so i ride the rough trails on the weekend and i dont blame the people for riding mid week cause i would be there if i could also.

Buddy was on trails by Crosslake/Emily and said there just wasn't enough snow to make it even fun in the least yet. We have been on lakes, enough there, but the trails are just like the other places, needing white stuff still...

When I came down from LOW last weekend it seemed like there was as much grass showing as there was snow up there. It did seem a little more around Brainerd, but still not the greatest! That's why I am really hoping for some lake effects up on the North shore as it's just not getting much better anywhere else yet! frown

Steve Finland/Silver Bay area got 13 inches of light fluffy snow late last week I'm considering heading up there this weekend
LoonASea. I'm thinking of hitting Mill Lacs this weekend but I am sure up for another ride some time this winter. Keep me in mind! Maybe if the snow Su@k's every where else we can get a whole gang up there for the day! wink I'm getting hungry for a Trestle Inn burger! grin

If anyone is looking for a nice ride, we have been riding the Minnesota river from New Ulm, up to franklin area and Jackpot junction casino, Its about 100 miles round trip, can ride river up to franklin and then trail up to jackpot or trail goes to north redwood, food availible at 2 places in north redwood, We also ride from new ulm to granite falls casino by river 210 miles round trip , we are doing that run in about 2 weeks scenery is great, lots of rock formations and deer and turkeys and eagles, one of the most scenic rides in southern minnesota. River is so low this year that half the time u are not even driving on ice, most of the times riding on river bed, good snow cover and lots of play areas in the dryed up river channels. lots of fun .

Rode the snow belt area in northern WI over the Xams weekend while at the in-laws. The trails were OK. Even with the almost 18" of snow they got there were still rocks coming up thru on the trails and we found alot of the trails SW of Hurley were plowed for logging. Was able to put on about 100 miles so that was nice.

Not nearly anough around Cloquet to even think about it frown

I've been riding in the Brainerd Lakes area for the past two days and the trails are marginal at best. Rode in the Pillsbury State Forest this afternoon and it was very rocky and sandy. I had to run with scratchers down all day to keep from overheating. They need 6 inches of snow around here before it will be decent.
