CJH
Any thoughts? Honda = Good.I wouldn't back away from a Yamaha either. Both are good.
forcedtowork
Check out the Powerhouse Brand as well, yes it will be a little nosier, but they are nice. I just got bought the 2100PHRI off of the bay site for $480 with free shipping, regular $699.99 at the big c in Rogers. If you can swing the cash for the Honda, go for it, they are really nice, I couldn't justify spending that kind of money for something I am not going to use a ton. blue_healer_guy
do a 2000 tho, never know what you might add in the future.
LightningBG
Yeah, for the slight difference in cost, I'd go 2000. 1000 can get gobbled up pretty quick if you use any type of appliances (coffee pot, etc)
Hawg
Forget the Powerhouse unless you want your hose egged or burned. You will make enemies. A 1000 will run anything that doesn't have a heating element like a coffee pot.
highlife4me
I vote for the 2000 also. Just a little more money for twice the generator. I can run anything in my RV except the AC with my 2000.
jjohnson5150
Go 2000. Best purchase I've ever made. Very nice unit.
jjohnson5150
My other advice - stay away from engines made in China. They never last and are loud. It might be a cheap alternative upfront, but it will break eventually. My Honda sips gas and purrrrrrrs quietly I never turn it off long weekends on the ice thanks to the upper red fuel tank system, which I also suggest. forcedtowork
Hawg have you heard the powerhouse run? If not, why comment? I was providing an alternative option for a larger unti without breaking the bank. The Powerhouse is quite, it is 4 stroke, not a noisy 2 stroke. Look at it's spec's and look at the honda's specs, not a huge difference, I am confident that it will not make anyone mad, and this was a concern of mine, but I did my research. Before you comment do yours.
Hawg
I've read the specs and a friend has one. Never try to convince yourself or anyone else they are comparable. They are obnoxious cheap junk. Obviously your billfold outweighed your conscience.
aanderud
The Powerhouse is quite, it is 4 stroke, not a noisy 2 stroke. Won't comment on the powerhouse loudness versus a honda but I will say this comment is one of the most insane comments ever. You can't just say it's quiet because it's a 4 stroke (and not a 'noisy' 2 stroke). Almost all generators are 4 stroke. In fact, I can't say that I've ever seen a 2 stroke generator. That's not to say someone doesn't make it, but I just haven't seen any.The fact that it is 4 stroke does not necessarily make it quiet. My champion generator is a 4 stroke engine. So is my lawn mower. So is my snowblower. None of them are quiet.

Jigging Joe
I have the Honda 1000, the one advantage of this one over the 2000 is its half the weight. The disadvantage is its half the power...I bought mine off the list for half the price of a used 2000 ($375), it can powers my 10 amp battery charger while the tv and satelitte reciever is on, it stays pretty much on idle while doing this. If you're going to power anything with a heater, like a coffee pot or toaster, I'm sure it would max out or maybe not even power it. I think it depends on what you need to power. I went with 1000 just because I got a good deal on it.
bkerschner70
I also suggest upgrading to a 2000. You can do almost anything you will ever need to do with it and it is easy on gas and quiet. The 1000 is lighter but honestly the 2000 isn't that heavy. It's not like you will be carrying it around all day. Worth the extra money all day. If you really want to splurge buy the companion model so if a buddy has one you can both have access to 4000. At deer camp I can run a crock pot all day and my tv, receiver and 4 lights and it never goes above idle. The only time it seems to rev up is when we kick on the coffee pot. I also agree with sticking to the Honda or even the Yamaha, I had a chinese generator that was half the price, loud, and for some reason would run fine for a couple hours and just about the time I fell asleep I would have to go out and get it running again. Sold it very fast as parts are not available and no one knows how to work on them.
Lip_Ripper Guy
My Yamaha 2000 has been great. Definitely can't go wrong with a Honda. As mentioned above, the 1000 will do everything except power a heating element (a crockpot will be fine). My 2,000 rarely goes above idle, and runs 12+ hours on a tank of gas. You may actually burn slightly more with a 1,000 if it has to work harder.
cold one sd
I have a Honda 1000 and do use a coffee maker. It is a little four cup model like you find in motel rooms. I just make coffee more often than with a bigger one.
Sutty
I have the honda 2000 and have a question. I thought I read that it puts out about 14 amps is that correct? I have a battery charger I'd like to use that has a 15 amp setting and don't want to blow fuses.Just bought it this fall and have not tested it all that much yet. Charger is at the lake... Someone will correct my math if it's wrong, but the 15 amps is at 12 volts, and I believe it is only 1.25amps at 110 volt (15 amp/12 volts). My 45 amp charger doesn't even bump my 2000 watt off idle. Charger is at the lake... 14 amps at 110v seems about right. It should run a 15 amp battery charger without even working up a sweat. I have a 1000W Sinemaster (Honda knockoff) that I bought 11 years ago. It was half the price of the Honda and still runs like a champ. I use it to charge my batteries through a 40 watt intellepower converter and this little genny is maxed at this rate. It takes me 3 hours to charge a bank of 4 batteries and then I'm good for another 24 hour period (unless the microwave gets used too much). For those with 2000 watt generators that never get past idle, it is a good practice to periodically plug something in that will make these units grunt for a bit. It will help keep the stators clean and the unit running well over the long term.

efgh
Any engine with oil in the crankcase is a 4 stroke, I have never seen a 2 stroke with oil in the crank case. Honda 2000 and 3000 gen. are 4 stroke. I don;t know about the 1000. Getting back to the size to purchase, get one bigger than you think you need, you will always find some other goody electrical to add in your fishouse. Hawg
Sam, that's a VERY good deal. They are usually $450-$500 on the big E for a clean used one.
