Scott M
Bielema is gone for Arkansas. He probably saw the writing on the wall...Meyer was going to own the division for years and Wiscy will lose another Rose Bowl. Yes, you can tell this Gopher fan "at least he got there." Coaches promise the world to the kids, get them to commit to 4 years, and then the little weasels jump ship. He's got his work cut out for him in the SEC. LMITOUT
Coaches promise the world to the kids, get them to commit to 4 years, The Rose Bowl Turf - The Brewster era began with his promise of a Big Ten Championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl for the newly coined "Gopher Nation." A piece of turf from the Rose Bowl was placed in the locker room as a reminder of bigger things to come. Hmmm.
Scott M
He promised hot chili and bear hunts too. LOL.
Alagnak
LOL. I'm pretty sure he helped quite a few players get better, and plenty make it to the NFL. Might even have coached a few wins along the way. Comparing him to Brewster? It's funny, but not much of a comparison. I know he inherited a decent program and didn't start with a one win per season team but I'm fairly certain there's a lot of gopher nation that wouldn't mind a coach doing half of what he accomplished while at WI. It could be as simple as an even larger pay check and larger audience to help him get to whatever his coaching goals are- who knows. How many people are going to turn down an opportunity like that? ($) I know I could be persuaded to switch jobs and move for enough $. Some people, obviously not.
walleyeking19
As a life long Badger fan, I'm kinda glad he's gone. The Badgers have lost more games during his tenure because of him rather than winning because of him. He is the worst coach in recent history when it comes to game management. LMITOUT
He promised hot chili and bear hunts too. LOL. Hahahaha! And all they got was cold Ramen noodle soup and a pellet gun with a string of Twinkies tied around their necks for bait.
countyline
Well at least the new coach will still be better than Kill. As for Ohio St. Lost to them in OT. Wisco only has four starting seniors leaving the team. Nine total. Team is deeper in depth than MN by far. Deal with the gophers being a bottom feeder team for awhile. With the way this team is set a lot of top end coaches will be in line for the job. Its not like MN where you have nothing but hope that only returns to hope every year. Or just getting to some scrub bowl game.Btw.......your welcome for the money you get from the rose bowls and such. Gophers bowl games a pocket change. Big Dave2
Maybe if Kill wins the Meineke car care bowl, Wisconsin will be so impressed that they will offer HIM the job.
countyline
Probably not. He wouldn't be able to handle "Jump Around". He would go into seizures every week. Or what to do with a D1 roster. But then again some are happy being the door mat of the Big 10. MN should have some major concerns. BB helped him out by giving him the sloppy seconds at Northern IL. Next coach just may steal more in state players away. Think Nelson is regretting his decision? He will.
nofishfisherman
Anyone catch why he didn't at least stay through the Rose Bowl? Seems like if you coach all season and get your team into the Rose Bowl you might want to at least stick around and coach the last game. Scott M
"We at the Big Ten don’t want to be like the SEC — in any way, shape or form." The Steve Spurrier of the North can move down and play big boy football and watch a few scores get run up on him. Karma's a b-word.

Mr.Seaguar
da chise, why have you done that to us? What did we ever do to you? To paraphrase a line from Billy madison, " Nowhere in that eye searing image is there any reason to show it to us. We are all closer to blindness for having seen it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul" Seriously, that is quite the picture, lol. I dont know why Bielema left. He sure didnt upgrade schools. He went from soon to be outside looking in to already for the last 40 yrs outside looking in.
snoozebutton
Rumor is that Boise State coach Chris Petersen will be in Madison Tuesday for an interview.
countyline
He went from soon to be outside looking in to already for the last 40 yrs outside looking in. How do you figure that? The soon to be part that is. This not a team that people hope the phone don't ring. Coaches are praying for a call.Only losing 4 starting seniors. Two on each side. Nine seniors total. Something MN don't have and that be depth.
RiverFish
I dont know why Bielema left. He sure didnt upgrade schools. I think he is getting about $600,000 more a year in Arkansas. Money talks.Maybe he was just ready for something different.I don't think the Badgers will miss Bert.
Mr.Seaguar
Wisconsin lost 5 games this yr. The only thing that kept them from being in the meineke bowl was sanctions against Penn State and Ohio State. Ohio State is a better program, Penn State is better. Penn state was in a shambles last summer. And they beat Wisconsin. Bielema has been there for 7 yrs, Bill Obrien at Penn State had his finger in the dike. Things look great at Penn State. OSU is looking like a Natl title contender after one year with Urban Meyer.I agree, if he did it for money then its a good idea. More money is always a good idea at some level. PierBridge
Quote:He sure didnt upgrade schoolsI guess that depends on how you view it ... yeah it's a long shot to succede or win in the best conference "SEC" there is but I think deep down he knew with Meyer and Ohio State in town that the notion that Wisconsin would EVER win a National title in Football is a pipe dream at best!Wisconsin will still have a good football program and play in the vastly diminished Rosebowl here and there so all is not lost...Inspite of the rhetoric from disgruntled Badger fans they lost a darn good coach. snoozebutton
No, the Badgers lost a pretty good recruiter and a decent coach that can be easily replaced. Wisconsin will only lose 3 starters to graduation for starters with a real good incoming freshmen class.
countyline
Gary Anderson from Utah State will be the next head coach at UW.In: Utah State head coach Gary Andersen, hired Dec. 18.What he inherits: Andersen will walk into a very good situation at Wisconsin as the program was not on a downward trend but rather headed back to the Rose Bowl for what seems to have become a familiar trip as the Badgers have played in Pasadena the last three seasons. The program has just updated its facilities and has very good academic reputation. The team is not depleted of talent and he should be able to win with the current players as he shapes the team in his own mold.Buzz on the new coach: Andersen is not a flashy hire but he comes with plenty of substance which may make him a perfect fit at a no-nonsense Wisconsin program. He is a quality game manager and the fans got to see that first hand this season as his Utah State team was a missed field goal away from downing the Badgers. His calling card has been the development of talent and playing strong defense - both of which will be needed in the Big Ten.
