I pull my motor off and bring it in the house when I see the temps won't be above freezing for awhile. That doesn't mean I won't take a day trip on a warm February day though.

first fall having my own boat, what would one have to worry about when going out in the cold nowadays? I have read the motor as long as its in the water will be alright, my little '83 15hp 2 stroke drains quick so thats important when taking out, how much ice can one plow through? I would think an aluminum boat could handle a good amount. any thoughts much appreciated

I'll be out this weekend...going for a new personal record for latest on a lake..not the river (thats year around pretty much). Not going out early in AM (less chance of icy ramps. My other record was Veterans Day a few years ago..it's nice a quiet out there thats for sure.

Just got the boat winterized yesterday. I'm putting in storage Saturday. I already miss it!

It's always a difficult call. I've waited too long before and that wasn't any fun either. Here was my boat at the cabin 3 weeks ago-

I left this rod sitting on top of the boat cover over the weekend...This is what it looked like on monday There is a nice reel in that block of ice!

2 years ago I made the same mistake as the boat above...Never thawed all winter - Ended up busting a few rods trying to get them out of the ice in the spring.

I never put the boat away. It stays parked in a heated garage. There is almost always a river I can go to when I get sick of the crowds out on the ice.

Drove through Cass Lake on saturday and saw several trucks and trailers at the public landing with 45 degrees and NO wind! Made me wish I was pulling my boat! I don't think I had ever seen that lake as calm

Last morning out. Always as sad day. Ice fishing gear gets dusted off this afternoon. I'd guess safe walkable ice in 20 days(Wright co. anyways)
