Fiscal Cliff Dollar Menu

So, with less than 2 months to go lets get some cheap meal ideas just in case the boys and girls in DC can't figure something out and we will be stuck eating Mac n Cheese and Ramen noodles for the next 4 years grin

Speaking of which......a box of 39 cent off brand prepared Mac n Cheese, stir in a big dollop of Top the Tater Sour Cream, and a couple slices of crumbled bacon....this was seriously not bad, not exactly healthy, but pretty tasty!

This, as with the above was actually inspired by three days home with a sick kid and going a little stoopid watching cartoons. Suppose that brought me back to my youth and remembered the Toasty Dog. While "we" just whipped up a pizza crust type "crescent role" for the 99 cent turkey dogs, you could just break the bank and buy some or go the traditional white bread toothpick route smile

Just basted the leftovers with butter and garlic powder before cooking and ate dipping in a marinara sauce....

Not yet....was going to this year though. If anyone wants to try double breaded, 4 times the butter, plus bacon fat, plus being deepfried in more fat.... Mac n Cheese....just show up to the Cool Cats Get Together and up those cholesterol numbers grin

Two comments: First, there is only one sized dollop of top the tater... and that is "Ginormous"

Second: I have yet to find much that doesn't taste awesome with top the tater and bacon.

My dog this was a staple growing up (top the tater, that is)

Funny about the "porridge" recipe. This fall I was doing some cooking in Alaska and wasn't the one who bought the groceries. I mixed up some instant potatoes and "juiced" them up with some Ranch dressing and the guys all decided this was the only way to have them in the future. In fact we made them again later on during the trip. I've also been sent a couple of texts during some other trips the Alaska guys did this fall that the Ranch dressing was back in the potatoes.

Of course, I think we were so hungry by then for something hot that there probably wasn't much that wouldn't have tasted good!

Fried Bologna Sandwich

=========================

Ate quite a few of these late night while in college.

http://americanfood.about.com/od/hamburgersandsandwiches/r/Fried-Bologna-Sandwich-Recipe.htm

There are several recipes out there but go with the mayo ones.

Mid-lake's porridge would have been a great side dish. Fats and oils food group at it's best.

Tip my hat to Porridge after the QE3 and commodities ramp up.

try this > top ramen = Chicken curry! …… simple cheap & good eats - 1. Cook 3 pkgs of top ramen at one time, with the seasoning pkts in 3 cups of water, until the water is gone. in another pan > finely chop up a regular yellow onion and sauté in 2 tbs of butter adding 1 tsp of curry powder about ½ way thru. then..... Add 1 can cream of chicken soup,1/2 cup mayo,1/2 cup milk,1tsp lemon juice and 2cups of cooked diced/pulled chicken heat thru- stir. 4 place the noodles in a casserole and pour the curry & chicken mix over…… give “the works” a little stir, serve it up!

I don't have any pictures but my wife and I grow one heckuva garden. She's a pro when it comes to canning.

We also shoot deer, catch fish, and butcher our own cows and pigs. When we take a nose dive off the cliff we'll still be eating well.......As long as the kids (adults now) don't come raid the basement pantry, which they often do when they come by for a visit. Heck, if I were them I would do the same. The wife makes some killer salsa and bloody mary mix.

for a treat... a little butter on bread, spead on a little brown sugar, in the frypan sugar side down till it melts ( doesn't take long). Flat carmel roll. lol had them a lot when I was a kid and still make a couple times a year.
