Ground Blind?

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question: If using a portable ground blind for slug season, do I need to have a certain amount of blaze orange visible on the blind? I've been trying to find it in the rules book, but I haven't been seeing anything. Maybe I'm just looking past it. I know in the past its been something like a 12"x12" area visible from all sides. Just wanted to get it figured out.

Thanks!

I don't believe I've ever seen a requirement on it either. Its probably a good idea to mark your location in some way but not sure about there being a law about it.

The blind i've used had maybe 4"x4" squares of blaze you could expose or cover up.

I've also just hung up a piece of blaze colored clothing above the blind as well to mark the location for others to see. I usually wrap it around a branch or something so that its not blowing around so its not causing alot of extra movment for the deer to see.

I hunt on public land. A guy set up one of these within range of me last year. I had no idea he was even there until I walked out. I would never use one of these on public land. Heck I would hesitate to use one on private land.

I searched the entire PDF of regulations for "orange" and "ground" and "blind" and found nothing indicating hunters are required to have blaze orange visible when hunting in a ground blind. But I feel like I've read that before...

That said there's no way in hell I'd hunt from a ground blind during rifle season, blaze orange or not

I think I remember seeing it SUGGESTED in last year's reg book. I surely would put some orange up. I only bowhunt but when I do during gun season, I mark the blinds I use with big strips of blaze orange duck tape in a tree branch pattern, even on private land. I also put a strip of orange tape on my buck decoy during archery season if in a field remotely visible from the road. When we're talking about people shooting toward you from ground level, you can't be too careful. Good luck!

I used to safty pin old orange on but know just use a coat hannger an hang a orange coat in the tre next to me.

I have been hanging a orange vest above my blind for years, i have walked several hunderd yards away and looked at my blind, vest is very noticable to other hunters, I would put something up for sure to be on the safe side.
