What do you eat when you are ice fishing?

I like to bring chips, lots of hydration drinks and little snacks.

I know the one heater can make-shift into a heating device. I was just wondering what all of you bring / eat when you are out in the middle of the ice?

Pretty much anything you can warm in a pizza oven.

I purchased these grates in the paint section of the local hardware store for under $3. A couple of quick bends and voila... Removable buddy heater grill. I don't cook anything directly on the rack to avoid the mess. Kids like to grab pizza rolls and hotpockets at the convenience store on the way to the lake for a hot meal on the ice.

Cheese sticks, pistacios, jerky and sports drink for the picnic basket.

Pistachio fans should try the new seasoned ones. I found some at Target and I think they were made by "Everybody's Nuts." The sweet chili flavor are amzingly addictive! I'll be leaving a trail of shells on the ice wherever I go this winter.

Traditionaly I dont like to eat much out on the ice , prevents bathroom breaks . I like to eat a good meal the night before , then just a few bottles of water/pop and a few beef/venison snack sticks and cheese . Theres nothing better than a good meal , after a day of slaying hogs !

If its an overnight trip , in a sleeper , then anything is on the menu . Chili is a favorite and very easy to make . I put my chili in a quart freezer bag , fixins in another bag . Gotta have cheese and chopped onions in my chili. Boil water in a pot over heater , put chili in bag right in water . When warm dump out water , pour in bowl , add fixins and your eating in style !

Last winter on Mille Lacs with my 9 year old we made ramens, and I have to admit, it was pretty good at the time, hit the spot, and was really easy to do. Of course I had the water along, my propane stove and a pot and some coffee cups. This winter I am taking 25 jr. Naturalists (3-5th graders) out on the ice, and ramens will be the snack on the ice......

If I'm just out for part of the day I like to bring those cheese crackers with peanut butter in the middle. Or Fig Newtons - I love Fig Newtons. If I'm out all day I pack sandwiches, apples, and snacks. For drink it's usually just water or coffee. I rarely cook or drink adult beverages on the ice unless I'm out with a group of friends.

You guys eat better than me. When fishing by myself it's a peanut butter sandwich, little bag of chips, and a rootbeer.

On the Minnewaska trip wth the big group the grills come out and it's burgers, brats, marinated duck, wild turkey, and pheasant breast wrapped in bacon and grilled to perfection along with an adult beverage. Is it February yet?

Not to mention they are cheap too! smile I actually was at the grocery store last week and passed the Ramen section, I decided to relive my college days and picked a few up. Ha.

Normally, its whatever I find in the cupboard that I can throw in the trap and wont be mush by the time I get out on the lake. And if I feel that I need something substantial, I heat up some type of soup before I leave, and throw it in a small thermos, will usually stay hot all day.

But, always have something to drink, as you have to stay hydrated if you want to fish all day. I like Vitamin Water, does not seem to freeze-up, even in really cold conditions.
