Can't say i've ever had a problem backing up to a launch when someone has their lights on. Its actually kind of nice as it lights up the area. 2c

I won't turn off my vehicle when i'm backed into the lake either. Thats just one more thing that could go wrong that could prevent you from getting into that lake faster if the vehicle won't start again for whatever odd reason.

I grew up loading/unloading with the vehicle running. An addition to this is leaving the window down, you don't want to block the access with keys locked in your car.

Come to think about it, I guess I have never noticed or had a problem with others headlights. But I could see it being a problem.

I agree with the OP. I can see better when backing even with my own headlights off. Other people's headlights shining directly at me are going to make things more difficult.

Better question might be, why do you need your headlights to go backwards?

I got off a lake just after midnight on Sunday morning and there was a cabin across from the landing I was using. I'm sure that they would not appreciate my truck lights shining into their bedroom window at midnight either.

A little respect for other people goes a long way.

never been an issue but if I couldn't turn off my lights I sure won't turn off my vehicel as I am loading the boat...that one you will just have to deal with or I can back your truck and trailer for you if it is that big of an issue....

I turn mine to "parking". It allows me to see the back of the trailer better because its lights are on too. NEVER shut your vehicle off on the landing. I did it maybe twice to save gas, and it doesn't start back up if the pipe is under the water much.

well pipe underwater might be a different deal

most the landings i go to because of the size of my boat are deep

decent landings and most have some kind of lighting hence making hedlights even more unnecasary

if you are afraid to shut off you truck

i'm wondering if you will make it down the road pulling a boat !!!

I'm not "afraid" to shut off my truck, but I used to have a 1978 F150 that ate starters regularly, so I learned to never shut off that truck anywhere I couldn't crawl under it and swap the starter out. That was long ago, but it was a lesson to me. Never shut your truck off on the ramp. Emergency brake, park, chock if you need it and roll a window down.
