New bow string

Recommended Posts

Going to take my bow into the shop and have a new string put on it as the old one has a nick on it and it starting to unravel. Don't feel its safe to shoot like that. Question is......is there one particular brand of string that is better than the rest? Is it the typical Ford vs Chevy debate where its a matter of personal preference?

Im not a big gizzmo guy but i have to ask... what do you get out of an expensive string as compared to a cheaper one? Is it simply the longgevity of it? Cheap lasts 8 years, expensive lasts 12?

im just curious?

Or do you guys just like all them pretty colors! blush

They use different materials and different processes of twisting them together.

If you are getting 8 years out of a cheap one, I'd suggest you keep using that kind. I don't get near that kind of longevity out of mine, but I shoot year round.

Thanks Don, I guess thats the thing right there, you wear yours out. I suppose when your shooting all the time a cheap one does go bad. I think the last bow I had was 12 years old and the string still seems fine to me. I kept it waxed. But then im more of an "end of summer shooter" so not a ton of arrows through it.

With the high end strings and cables their is hardly any twist and the are pre stretched so you have hardly any break in period most are just a few shots and they are set. I have had problems before with cheaper strings really stretching during the season which can cost you a trophy it did to me. When they stretch most times it is not noticeable till you shoot and everything is hitting 6" low or more at 20 yards.
