This is an informational thread on the location of AIS checkpoints for this opener and beyond. This is for people that follow the laws and rules "on their own" and may want to change plans for a different location or access if it looks like delays may happen.

Great Idea! Planning on fishing the crappie derby on minnestonka on Saturday..My plan is to show up REALLY early before the enviromental brownshirts show up! Boat is freshly scrubbed and waxed, just waiting for some s#$%^ss comment from them...Could be a fun game to play this year.

Just a couple days away to opener.

I think the easiest way is to add to the list:

1)County

2)Lake/River

3)Access name

That way a quick glance will tell you everything you need to know. I would guess they will be setting-up Friday night.

Remember thread is for info for people that follow the laws on their own and would like to avoid potential unnecessary delays.

My quess is that about every launch within the 7 county metro area will have at least the interns there this wknd and some of your bigger one the CO's with their power sprayers..Talking to the intern last week and I asked about discarding live bait (minnows) he said we had to dump them on shore or in the trash? but could not transport them in water? and cannot be dumping them in the lake..this is going to get complicated pretty fast.

I think it is going to interesting to see if this lives up to the hype. The people I know who are involved in this, say they will be out in force---whatever that means----well we should have better idea after this weekend.

Ya these new rules blow. So if I fish Fri, Sat and Sun I have to buy minnows each day. What a rip. Its almost enough to make me say forget fishing in MN. Not to mention I cant transport my fish home in water. Big Brother is at it again. Taking things way over board and harrasing its citizens. So if my dog swims in one lake while we are fishing, and then we go to another lake do I have to give him a bath before going to the next lake. Or do I have to leave her on shore with the minnows.

You do not have to buy new bait each day provide you bring along separate water (bottled water) that could be transferred to the bait upon leaving the lake.

What I dont understand is the need to remove the water from bait containers that NEVER come in contact with the lake/river. Leeches in the styrofoam container for example. Or, the giant minnow bucket with baitshop water.

So, all the more compelling reason to skip live bait all together and use artificial.

I hear what your saying Captain, I use a frabill cooler and areator. However how are you going to prove that you dont have lake water in it. I dont like fake bait and dont want to have to use it. Also the rules say you cant dump your bait on shore or in the lake. So you gotta drain the water at the lake and bring a bag to dump your minnows in to throw away when you get home or let em sit in a dry bait container and bake till ya get home. Either way what a treat. I also dont like bringing my fish home in dry pail and not in water. Like I said fishing is supposed to be a laid back relaxing sport. Not full of complex rules and harassing COs. If I want to deal with being harassed I will buy another RX7 and get back into drag racing.

Im actually pumped. I don't keep fish or use live bait so its no hassle. Plus now I get a free boat wash after I get off the lake.

Heres a thought since we live in the land of over legislation...when people stop going to some of your bigger lakes, ie Mille Lacs, Leech, Minnetonka, etc and quit buying licenses, bait, gas, food, booze, resturants and start going to more how should you say "Fishing/Boating Friendly" states, the local businessmen will start belly aching to their state reps and this will all go away. Remember, WE SPORTSMAN HAVE THE POWER TO NOT SPEND OUR MONEY ON THIS WICTH HUNT JOBS PROGRAM.

Yep, the whole thing has gone way over board. What would be wrong with a guy filling livewell with tap water and just recirculating it.. No damage done to anything. But it would technically be illegal. Would be interesting to challange thisw as I gotta believe our courts have more important things to spend time on.

Exactly now all the guys that want a relaxing day of fishing wont have to worry about cleaning it after. So nice of the state to wash our boats when we are done playing with them!!

If their not to busy you might be able to talk them into washing the truck as well!!

Mines already sitting on the boat lift in the lake waiting for me. No check points for me until it comes off the lake in the fall!

Honestly guys - it's not that hard. Bring water from home for the bait and stop at the nearest gas station on the way home and buy a bag of ice for the fish. Granted these rules will not stop the spread of invasives but if it slows it down a bunch then the little hassle is well worth it in my book. No sense conceding that every lake will have zebes and milfoil when something can be done about it.

The no water in the livewell for kept fish doesnt bother me. I throw them in a cooler full of ice when I leave anyway.

In reality, I think any person could tell whether the water in a bait bucket came from a lake/river or from the tap, but I agree. That would be very difficult to prove and is just easier to dump it and put in tap water.

Ive actually had decent success with artificial bait the last few years so I will experiment with that more.

The main problem/harassment I see is WHO is patrolling the 1000's of resort traffic?? I'm sorry but its a losing battle. Heck on Steamboat bay off leech lake I think there are 3 or 4 resorts alone....

-or if you have a carbon filter, that will take care of the chlorine too.

-or leave the water uncovered for a couple hours. Chlorine doesn't like being in water and will evaporate out quickly.
