65 degree water temps in March. EPIC

Today was an EPIC day on the water.

Fished Pool 4 and absolutely whacked the Largemouth with Superduty.

Water temp was 65 degrees at 10am.

Best 5 weighed 19lbs or so.

Once in a lifetime occurrence I think with the crazy warm weather and being in the right place at the perfect time.

Capped off a weekend of great fishing for me.

Wore the Pike out on Pool 2 with Aaron Carrel yesterday.

This really is a crazy year. 65 does seem high but I guess in a dark bottom shallow bay. Pool2 was over 50 in some places friday.

What was the pattern for the day?

On P2 are you getting the pike in the main channels or backwater areas, anything else mixed in?

I was wondering early, anyone know will the bass spawn this early in the year if water temps are right or is it multiple factors such as daylight and water temps that get them to spawn?

It was deep enough to keep their backs wet.. wink

We found a place that was a definite stopping point as they move from the wintering areas to where they will eventually spawn. New fish moved in all day and they were on the chew. I think I had 50 yards of slack knocked into my line as the day progessed!

I can confirm those water temps. We had 65-68 degree water temps in backwater bays of pool 5 yesterday. Backwater chutes with current were 54-55 degrees. Never made it out to the main river channel, but I'm sure its cooler yet.

We also loaded the boat with back to back to back doubles... giants too. The bite was absolutely insane. Best 5 would have been 18-20lbs, and we had many 3lb+ fish.

Low water + record high temps = good bass fishing. There's just not as much water for the fish to utilize with it being low, but they know its nearing time to spawn so they are stacking up near spawning locations big time. At least that's my theory.

Superduty,

So how you liking the new Boat?

The new boat is still sitting in my garage awaiting a prop before I can break it in. Should be here this week. I honestly didn't think I would need it this soon and got caught with my pants down! (so to speak)Everything else is rigged and ready to go. We fished out of Rumriverrat's boat.

Out of curiosity. I'm not pointing fingers or anything or saying your wrong, but is it legal to target bass on the river now? My boss and I are going to go out this saturday. We were going to to just target pannies, but if we can target bass we would rather do that. Thanks.

Found my info in the 2012 reg book. Pool two here I come. Where did you launch if you dont mind me asking?

Used the 494 ramp on Pool 2.

Pool 4 We used the Dike Road Access.

The best part of the day was I caught more fish that Superduty! laugh

Had to mention that, since he is not competitive at all.

He had me beat if we went my best 5 against his best 5 I think.

The hot bait was a custom painted Chartreuse and Lime KVD 2.5 and using a hydrowave.
