FISHINGURU
Now that the draft is over and we see where the team stands I could see us adding a free agent or two where we have needs. There's still some value out there and some guys will still be cut in the near future.
nofishfisherman
I'm not exactly what the Vikings are up to in terms of free agency. They keep bringing in guys but only on 1 year deals. It seems like they are just trying to get through this season and waiting for the following year. Not sure what they are waiting for but it just seems like they are avoiding any new commitment passed this season.Maybe its tied to the stadium deal or maybe they are targeting certain soon to be free agents the following season. Who knows.
FISHINGURU
It's league wide, everyone is on the 1 year bandwagon. There's been more 1 year deals ever the past couple seasons. I think it's because no one knows what next years salary cap is going to be next season so they just offer more 1 year deals to fill holes but no long term commitment.Another reason I think is because alot of the free agents these days are cut for character issues or trouble with the law along with age, so new teams are willing to give them a chance but not for big money. Teams don't have much to lose on the 1 year deals, maybe they strike gold then can lock the player up longer in the future. Players just like the chance to play again and they can try to prove they are worthy again. For the Vikes I think we are just trying to save money and get by this year so next year we can offer more money to some better players, also if we need new coaches we will be able to get better ones in here knowing they will have some money to spend. Teams like 1 year deals because if they player doesn't work out, they aren't committing themselves long-termPlayers often take 1 year deals because then if they perform really well then they can get their true market value by signing a long-term contract the next year, rather than signing a 3 or 4 year deal and outperforming their contract the first year and not being able to get more $$ very easily
soldoncass
I was surprised the Vikes released Longwell already....not surprised by the release, but I expected there to be a TC competition. The only way this makes sense, to me, is if they want to sign someone from the tryout group. They already had their 90 TC limit signed. Could be a move today, to refill that roster spot. LABS4ME
I heard on the radio they didn't want the kickers to compete for the position. If Longwell beat out the rookie in camp, they in essence, wasted a draft pick as they are not going to carry 2 kickers on the team... that in a way makes sense... what doesn't is they are choosing the potential for touchbacks over the guarantee of points scored...Good Luck!Ken
FISHINGURU
Longwells departure was over due, I can't believe they resigned him last year. Probably the weakest leg in football and accuracy took a big hit last year.I'd rather take my chances on a fresh leg, not like we'll be kicking our way into the superbowl anytime soon. soldoncass
Vikes signed DL Jacobs from the Gophers. That is the reason Longwell was let go so soon.....they needed a roster spot for a tryout member.

Yep and your new guy's accuracy took a big hit too last year. I believe he missed 14 out of 35 attempts... I think missing 40% of your attempts does not guarantee you a roster spot!Good Luck!Ken
james_walleye
Longwell in his college career was 32 for 56........just something to chew on......

I think it was more out of respect for Longwell...it'll give him all the time he needs to find a new team.
FISHINGURU
I'd be shocked if someone signed Longwell. He can barely kick it to the 10 yard line on kickoffs, you pretty much need to use 2 roster spots on a kicker if you have him on your team. I guess stranger things have happened though like someone signing Junkson.
james_walleye
He will be signed, no question.....
Scott K
Now that the Vikings got their stadium, lets hope they put a team together and earn it!
TR21HP
Certainly hope they don't foolow the Twin's model. Get a new stadium have a decent team for a year and fall flat on your face.
zepman
The Wilfs are no where near the Pohlads in this respect. They will spend the $$$ on players and do their part in making the Vikes as good as they can be. The Wilfs are good owners.
